That seems pretty far-fetched. A league either has systems in place to catch an athlete betting on their own sport or they don't. And in case anyone is unsure, yes, they do have those systems in place, very much so. With sports betting basically becoming legal now, all the major sports leagues, because they partner with these sportsbooks for added revenue, are able to monitor who's betting on what. Players betting on other sports should be a non-issue.
In fact, adding to the confusion in this Pinto case (where it was reported there is no evidence he bet on NHL games), according to this ESPN article from June, players in all four major sports leagues are allowed to bet on games in sports that aren't their own. Is this article wrong? Missing other information? Did Pinto bet on NHL games after all? What's going on here?
As I hazarded a year ago - watch that smile on his last goal for the Wings. The guy's wound tighter than an air-wrenched lug nut.
He was involved either directly or indirectly with NHL game betting. Players are allowed to bet on other sports so there would be no suspension of any length if that was the case. Mouser on the business forum said he is heavily rumoured to have been betting via proxy. The assumption is someone either with his permission or doing do without his permission but access to his account was placing bets through an app or whatever that Pinto uses to bet on things. It could be a friend or someone had access to his account, placed bets without Pinto's consent or something along those lines.
I know the draft is a crapshoot after the first few picks (in a strong year) but holy wow was Cholowski a swing and a miss.
And honestly Hronek was among one of Yzerman's more cutthroat moves. Not that I thought he was a part of the core but he's a decent defenseman who's 25 years old. But I guess Stevie knew to get anywhere the Wings needed more talent so it's worth more picks in a strong draft.
The lesson there is don’t draft a player that raw that high. The range of outcomes was always massive with Cholowski.I have no idea what the scouts were watching when they picked Cholo. He's completely afraid of any contact, I bet he just watches the girls on the stage and doesn't get a single lap dance when he goes to nudey bars.
As for Hronek, Stevie hates Czechs. Either that or there was some preliminary contract extension talks that he didn't like, because Stevie supposedly had a mid-season change of heart. It was a good trade for both teams, I'm liking Ghost and the 2D PP.
not that I think this is terribly likely for a variety of reasons(he'd probably be appealing for one thing) but how is that worded exactly? if he was betting money on lets say SHL games for example(which some sportsbooks do have) that wouldn't be NHL games but could also technically count as the same sport depending on the wording
One things for sure is the Wings did a poor job drafting defenseman for a long time. If you look at the list of prospects between Kyle Quincey in 2003 and McIsaac in 2018, it ain't pretty. The lesson there is don’t draft a player that raw that high. The range of outcomes was always massive with Cholowski.
Especially compared to the defenseman we could have (should have) drafted that year.
If you where a pro athlete why would you bet on a game yourself? In all seriousness, if you were to wager on a game why wouldn't you have a third party make the bet for you? I always kinda wondered this kinda like with Pete Rose and stuff now this and whoever else gets in trouble for sports betting.
That makes sense. Seems like confusion on this topic was generated from the article(s) that claimed he wasn't betting on NHL games in any way. Seems like he was, even if by proxy. He was involved either directly or indirectly with NHL game betting. I'm gonna be mildly disappointed if they don't hire Chiarelli as his replacement.Sens fire Dorion lol

He probably just isnt as polarizing in league circles than to fans, but you gotta wonder how much of that is based on the NHL being an old boys club, rather than any mirage of the collection of front offices in this league being a pure meritocracy.Man if they do, that is so stupid, yet not unexpected. How he has any NHL job or NHL interest is beyond me.

They say that the added umlaut means you call the doctor after six hours instead of four.Actually I hope this doesn't happen, I might achieve a chronic schadenböner so intense that I'll be immobilized.
