Yzerman when hearing about the rumors of Chiarelli replacing Dorion...

they also lost a first round pick in one of the next three drafts for the Dadonov thing

hell of a day in Ottawa
Ya but they assured me that both Detroit and Boston are both gonna be bottom half teams this year so they're gonna get a top half 1st round pick from the DeBrincat trade "guaranteed"

Why did Zadina ask to terminate his contract ?
Was it for a bigger role…on the sharks???
Yup.

He had been given plenty of chances but had played his way down the lineup here in Detroit. When he did play he was still getting 13 minutes with the Wings but with his lack of production he was going to have to constantly battle for ice time.

So he bet on himself by cancelling his contract to get a fresh start on a new team. I don't have ill will towards the kid I was just surprised at his inability to do put up points. I don't follow prospects but all anyone seemed to talk about around draft time was how great Zadina's shot was. And seeing it in the NHL it's nothing special.

Yeah that is one thing that honestly surprised me the most about Zadina is that he was drafted and hyped a shooter. A guy that could snipe goals, and honestly from the moment he came into the NHL it specifically has been decidedly average. It isn't particularly accurate, isn't super hard, doesn't necessarily get away super fast. Like I would have expected a Sprong like shot with the way he was talked about.

He was getting talk as the #2 pick at one point, rivaling Svechnikov in some people’s eyes, and it was all because he was allegedly a ruthless sniper. How the f*** were the powers that be so off on this? And the fact that a lot of us wanted Hughes just adds insult to injury.

Ok, but if he was still with the Wings org, he would be riding the bus in GR. NHL on a shitty team >>>>>>> AHL
He would have made $1.83M this season and $910k on his buyout. He's making $1.1M with the Sharks, at this rate he's not getting another NHL contract.

The math says he's gonna lose out on $1.6M. In either scenario, he's headed to Europe next season, so the salary there is a wash.

Zadina's thing was to set up at the FO dot on powerplays, and it was obvious early on that his timing sucked. He can't handle NHL speed passes, and he whiffed almost as much as he connected. That lack of timing impacted both his accuracy and his shot velocity.

He does OK when the pass comes from in front of him, but the only time that happens is if there's a juicy rebound or a pass from behind the goal line. He struggled with anything that came across the ice, perpendicular to his shot direction. Admittedly, I'd stop the puck then shoot, but that's beer league tactic. Not enough space or time in the NHL to do that, and it lets the goalie set up for the shot.

He's -12 and has a CF of 36%.

Yes, but everyone on that team has shitty stats. They aren't getting blown out just because he is on their team. They traded 2 key guys since last years deadline (Meier and Karlsson) from a team that was already bottoming out, and didn't replace either of them. They then also have their top center in Logan Couture out which on a shitty team makes things that much tougher. It would be like us 3-4 years ago if Larkin, Bert and Hronek were all missing at the same time for extended period.

San Jose is really putting that whole "someone has to score" mantra that people always repeat to try and discredit players putting up numbers on bad teams to the test

turns out if your team is bad enough then no your team can in fact just not score goals
