McDavid and Draisaitl are the NHL version of Trout and Ohtani. It's funny to laugh at, especially as a division rival but it's kind of tragic for the game that they can't surround these guys with a competent team.

I think the Kings are one goal-scorer away from being able to hang with one of those teams in a best of 7. Even with our roster as is, I don't think we are as dead as you think.

If this team were to trade for a JT Miller type I think we definitely become one of those teams that no one wants to play in a best of 7.

Except in EDM there is actual pressure to win. In Anaheim, Moreno is the owner ,gm, and president no matter who has the position, and as long as he continues to make money with a losing team, it stays the same. I honestly don't think he has the desire to win a championship. He's made a fortune selling the tv rights to the Japan media, so why bother doing anything else.

Miller instantly makes the Kings forward group very formidable. They'd be able to roll 4 lines with great effectiveness.

But even so, a good forward won't make much difference on the special teams, and that's where we're getting absolutely killed.

I also question our goaltending. Which is obviously huge in the playoffs. It's been very inconsistent. Petersen reminds of Bernier; good form, economical motion, very "proper", but he looks small in net and pucks find their way through him.

I have more faith in Quick, but he's having his ups and downs, and he's been injury prone. He's 36.

It's hard to imagine a team with terrible special teams and a less than ideal goaltending situation making a run in the playoffs.

I actually think goaltending is one of our strengths.
Quick has had a few bad games, as had Cal, but those are few and far between. I'd rather have Quick in net during the playoffs than most of the other guys in the league. I'd trust him more than Kuemper.

Well that was a pretty unimpressive 1st Period for Team USA.

Brisson is going to score a lot of goals in the NHL just like that, he’s like Stoll on shootouts back in the day, just always hits that spot from the off-wing. Could be the best player to come out of SoCal (I know that isn’t saying much)

Even better than Matt Nieto? :naughty:

This is a "break glass in case of emergency" scenario and you only get to break that glass once. The next time you are gone. Ken Holland is notorious for not liking firing in season, he must know they are going to miss the playoffs. Hyman has been a total bust, guy has 2 goals in his last 17 and both happened in the same game. They needed a goalie and should have opened the bank to make it happen. McDavid and Draisatl aren't even tradable players if they wanted out. There is no way out in Edmonton, this team will be average for many more years. There is no solution in the next couple years.

I got ridiculed years ago when I said he wasn't a very good GM in the current NHL, well who is laughing now?

Everyone who isn't an Oilers fan.

Hmm, you mean it gets harder when you can't outspend the competition by 100%?

It took a while, but a 7-0 win still is pretty good.

The Oilers had to do something, but this is change for change sake. Did Tippett re-sign 40 year old Mike Smith for two years as the top goalie? Did Tippett vastly overpay for the corpse of Duncan Keith? Did Tippett give Nurse that ridiculous contract coming off an outlier season when the Oilers only played against other Canadian teams? Did Tippett build one of the worst defensive rosters in the league? Did Tippett build a roster with zero depth?

Obviously Holland isn't going to fire himself, but this isn't fixing anything in Edmonton. Incoming 6 games in 10 days for the new Oilers coach, good luck
