other than being french what has he done? I know he worked in the rangers organization with Gorton and I had heard he was in coaching, but what has he done to be a head coach. Also why would he sign on when a team should be tanking. hard place to start

He's not an established coach so he can't really be picky about where to go. The Gorton connection likely played into it. I wonder if the new GM was also his agent. Connections play a large role in these things everywhere, but especially in pro sports.

If it were me I would rather work my way to assistant on a good team and then take a coaching job on a decent team than take one with a team on the decline. At least on a team on such a steep decline that the habs are on.

They [nhl network] brought up Babcock , but with 7.5 mil already on the books to now 2 former coaches, no way would they dish out another 10 mil or whatever for him. Marty will be cheap, thats for sure.

Habs were screwed out of playoff revenue by the Canadian government. Should have been max capacity the entire run.

He could be looking at it like if he can swing momentum the other way and get a better record than Dom did it'll secure him the gig for several seasons.

Will St. Louis be able to see over the bench?

On another note. Caufield, their premier scoring prospect, has struggled with scoring while on the bottom-six. I'm not terribly surprised, given that he has always been more of an opportunist than a play driver.

But it will be interesting to see how he does if he gets moved up in the lineup.

Oilers lose again to the lowly Hawks. Keep it coming.
Outscored 8-1 over the past two games, Mike Smith giving up 4 both times. Not pretty, but he seemed pretty pleased with his own performance. Connor McDavid looks like he needs a vacation.

Yeah now the Oilers are losing ground. I love it. Calgary's coming on strong though. I have them to win the division with Vegas, LA, and ana rounding out the top 4. edm/sj coming in 4th.

The Oilers are a lousy even strength team. They've lived off special teams. When the PP/PK inevitably hit a rut, like they are now, they're screwed.

If the Kings finish out the season playing relatively well, they'll likely finish 3rd in the division behind Calgary and Vegas. Either team would kill us in a playoff series, but I would prefer to play VGK. We know how Sutter teams are in the post season.

McDavid and Draisaitl are the NHL version of Trout and Ohtani. It's funny to laugh at, especially as a division rival but it's kind of tragic for the game that they can't surround these guys with a competent team.

I think the Kings are one goal-scorer away from being able to hang with one of those teams in a best of 7. Even with our roster as is, I don't think we are as dead as you think.

If this team were to trade for a JT Miller type I think we definitely become one of those teams that no one wants to play in a best of 7.

I wouldn't mind Conor Garland either, similar to an Arvidsson deal. I think he could be a 25/25 player the next couple years.

He does still have the stench of Arizona on him tho, that's permanent...

Would prefer more of a finisher, but as a skill player he would be a welcome addition, especially a a right shot which the Kings could really use another of.

Scoreboard watching and watching other games is more fun this season, I know the Kings were kind of in the hunt for awhile last year but it never felt real, this season feels like they really could do it. Calgary is on fire and now only 1 back with 4 in hand. They do have the red hot Leafs tomorrow playing a back to back so hopefully it'll be 1 back with 3 in hand. I still feel like the Ducks end up falling back like the Kings did last season, I have no doubts that Zegras is every bit as good as he's shown, but is Troy Terry going to score at a near 50 goal pace in the 2nd half? I am not buying it, I think the Kings are a better team and have more to trade to make their team even better at the TDL.

Yeah I think the Ducks will fade. My theory is the Kings underlying numbers (possession, shot differential, etc) are so strong that eventually the special teams will improve and the Kings will hit another level. Calgary doesn't scare me, I think the Kings could beat them in 6 or 7. Vegas is a machine and once they get Eichel back they will hit the afterburners. I think Vegas would win in 6 but it wouldn't be that close.

Well Oilers are trash but guess who we play next after this freakin long a** winter summer break? We all know what's going to happen sadly.

Miller instantly makes the Kings forward group very formidable. They'd be able to roll 4 lines with great effectiveness.

But even so, a good forward won't make much difference on the special teams, and that's where we're getting absolutely killed.

I also question our goaltending. Which is obviously huge in the playoffs. It's been very inconsistent. Petersen reminds of Bernier; good form, economical motion, very "proper", but he looks small in net and pucks find their way through him.

I have more faith in Quick, but he's having his ups and downs, and he's been injury prone. He's 36.

It's hard to imagine a team with terrible special teams and a less than ideal goaltending situation making a run in the playoffs.
