I don't think Sutter was overrated. The 2014 playoffs pretty much demonstrated that he was superior to any of the coaches the Kings faced in the playoffs.

Also, you don't have the kind of runs the Kings had in 2012-2014 in the playoffs and have it be catching lightning in a bottle. Things have changed just a bit in terms of systems played by teams in the playoffs in that I don't think the teams up the physicality from the regular season the way teams like the Kings and Blues did 7 or 8 years ago.

The Kings circa 2012-2014 truly were built for the playoffs, and their forecheck was designed to grind opposing defensemen into a sticky paste.
I've always given Sutter a ton of credit for the Kings SC's, but seeing what happened to Calgary this year does give me cause to pause on that thought.

Sutter had a much better roster than McClellan did, but TMac's team sure gave Edmonton more problems.

I'm not saying it proves anything, but it sure surprised the hell out of me.
Calgary's problem was that they didn't have a single player on their roster that was drafted after 2016 by their own organization. See, Kings aren't the only team with development issues.

Calgary's goaltending was pathetic in that series. I think that was the difference.

I was going to say that the goaltending on the Calgary side of things was pathetic. Kings got motorboated a few times against Edmonton as well but Quick tossed in the one shutout and then was awesome in Game 7. He ended the series with a 3.43 GAA and a .904 SV % and it's still okay to say that it doesn't even go to seven games without him.

Markstrom's best SV % against Edmonton was .882% in a game when he gave up four goals and got pulled after 40 minutes. He posted a .786 SV % and gave up six goals in his only win of the series!

Goaltending stats have a lot to do with team play.

Markstrom may have sucked, but Calgary was giving up tons of chances.

The Kings did a much much better job of limiting the Oilers while having a far more depleted roster, and really green D group.

Calgary was largely a one-line team all year despite their depth on paper. That got exposed when the Oilers one line was better. It really wasn't much more complicated than that.
Yeah, Edmonton basically kept Drai and McDavid together and challenged their opponents to stop them. Kings were close. Calgary just couldn't and Colorado did.

There is no arguing that since the Kings uniform is quite possibly the worst in the NHL.
We have two absolutely amazing vintage uniforms — the classic yellow and purple, and also the black and white with the chevy logo — and yet we wear the most boring black and white jersey with the stupid home plate logo. The reverse retros were really cool, hopefully we see something similar to that again. But please no more chrome domes, yuck.

Here are a bunch of random jerseys, real or concept, that I like more than our current jerseys:

I like all of the above in Forum Blue and Gold. Wear those Whites with Forum Blue and Gold trim during Sunday games.

They're better than Anaheim's. And possibly better than these Carolina ones.

Aside form those, they're probably the worst in the league. I hate the fact they won the cup in them, so now all the imagery from the franchise's greatest moments is ingrained in history with the Kings wearing their worst ever unis.

I remember the first time we saw the current jerseys at the the draft. I didn't think they were real. That's how bad they are.

Love these posts...the current logo/jersey is the most popular the team has ever had.
