McPhee is a completely incompetent GM who reshuffles the deck every year and mismanages his cap in the process. That’s the problem.

Every team in the league makes cold business decisions if they have to. See: Lombardi and Visnovsky.
Nit-picking...McPhee hasn't been gm for 3 years. He kept his president of hockey ops role with Vegas. McCrimmon is the GM.

Fiala is a lousy defensive player, but a hell of an attacking rush player.

Playing with Kopitar, assuming that's why he was acquired, ensures that he will be playing primarily matchup hockey with fewer attacking options.

Its the same reason Kovalchuk and Arvidsson struggled with Anze. Fiala won't come close to 80 points if he is on that line. Guessing he is lined up with Danault and Arvidsson by Thanksgiving.
Fiala wasn't acquired and signed for 7 years to play with a guy a year or two away from retirement.

I sure hope so. I feel like it's one of those things that WE all see as an obvious things....but TM/etc. is another story. TBD i guess but fingers crossed on that one.

I doubt Kopitar retires in 2 years. See him resigning and hopefully use as a third-line center, on the cheap.
Anze is an honorable man, no doubt in my mind that he will walk away proudly from the game if he feels his game has declined instead of trying to squeeze every ounce out of it. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he retires at the end of this contract.

You wanna bet?

Ideally Fiala plays with Byfield and Kaliyev, realistically they will try to force a fit with Kopitar first, like each of the other offensive wingers Blake has brought in.

It is extremely difficult to play with Anze, its a different style of play and different set of situations than most purely offensive guys are ready to accept. Iafallo is criminally underrated here, he has thrived in a hard enviornment.

Are we talking about the same washed up, loser player who leads the team in scoring YEAR AFTER YEAR? Asking for a friend.

Yes, talking about an age-related decline from a guy who has gone from winning every matchup to the tune of 60% GF% to losing every matchup all year last year despite point totals and who, for the first time in his career, was outscore 5v5 by other Kings, including one who played 15 fewer games.

It's not an insult to begin talking respectfully about life after Kopitar.

Dont be so touchy. He barely came off the ice last season and was 138th in goals. 1 goal and a minus 6 in the playoffs.
He didnt have such a good year last season. Hoping they take some pressure off him this year.

I support the idea with Byfield, but I doubt they initially put a top guy like Fiala with a 20-30 point center, which is what Byfield has shown at this time. It wouldn't surprise me to see Fiala start with Moore and Danault, moving Arvidsson with Kempe and Kopitar.

If Byfield takes strides, then sure, that's ideal. Lots of options if that happens and the team becomes really formidable quickly. Personally, I'd try Arty with Kopitar and Iafallo. Both of them can retrieve pucks and have great vision.

The Whopper leads Burger King sales year after year and its a shitty burger. Being the best of a mediocre bunch ain't much to crow about, its just a testament to his reliability.

Kopitar's a top line center who routinely produces low numbers for a first liner, and its not because he isn't as talented as the guys with better numbers. He plays pessimistic, safe hockey. Fiala is balls out, attack at all times with VERY little regard to defense. His best season came with kids who weren't asked to match up with anyone, just attack the net as a second line.

Its completely different hockey and assuming Fiala is going to see the same results just because Kopitar is "better" that Gauthier isn't realistic. There is going to be a huge adjustment there that ultimately would be better served jump starting Byfield's career than struggling next to Anze.

Let's just come down to earth for a minute....you aren't going to put an 8-mil dollar player on the 3rd line...and you sure as shit are not going to put a 10-mil dollar player on the 3rd line either. Fiala and Kopitar witll start the season and remain to play together until they prove that it doesn't work and there is no any reason why any of us shouldn't give that the benefit of the doubt until we see otherwise.

Kopi is still a great player -- he's not a 3rd line center (yet) on the Kings. But we're talking two years from now when his contract expires. What's he gonna be like after another two seasons/age. That's the key point -- then not now.

I also get the feeling Kopi may want to retire and return home 100% of the time. He spends a lot of time with the kids/youth there teaching the game. He's a very proud Slovenian. I'm not sure he will want to continue playing beyond these next two years. Lot's can happen and maybe if we are truly contending and he sees himself as an important part of the team and chance to get another cup. But not sure that will motivate him (only he knows i guess).

I get that trying to predict lines is fun, and what else are we going to talk about in July after the draft and free agency etc,

But...lines aren't built on paper, they are built in practices...many many practices....sometimes lines come together and everyone, coaches, players, fans, go WTFG.....how? Why....and then there are some that are put together that SHOULD work....and is just piss poor from the jump....

As a coach, and this is probably old school now, but I always loved putting a passer, a shooter, and a banger...together, loved that combo (but we are also talking 15-20 years ago)....

Am I the only one throughly enjoying the fact that a guy left a Canadien team and people are crying, it being to CBJ just makes it even better.
I don't dislike Calgary much; I'm honestly just happy Blue Jackets fans got a win for once. Their prospect pool is incredible already after only two years of high draft picks as well.
