I like the player too, really impressive in these playoffs. Very similar to Danault in terms of regular season stats and being defensively sound. Improves the Kings size without sacrificing speed, skill and more importantly assets.

With Nuke, I think it’s about length of contract because you want to maintain flexibility down the road.

Not at all, Danault had literally years of stellar 5v5 performance with one down scoring year, Nuke is the exact opposite and it's easily explainable.

Again to be clear I LOVE the player he plays Kings hockey but he's not the scoring woes solution and he's gonna be prohibitively expensive.

Are we talking 5v5 performance or are we talking about 5v5 production? Because Nuke's underlying 5v5 numbers have been similar to Danault's for the last 3 seasons. Otherwise before this season, he was hovering under .5 ppg - less than Danault, who had never scored more than 13 goals prior to coming to LA (I liked the Danault signing).

Even if Nuke became like a 15 goal guy next season, you're still getting a lot of value from him at 5v5, and he's a good bumper on the pp. With that said, he looks to me like a player rounding into form, not a flash in the pan. The foundation of his game isn't going anywhere, along with his physical characteristics which the Kings sorely need. But it comes down to salary and term at the end of the day. If someone's offering him 6 mill with good term that would be too steep.

My point is more it's a huge gamble based on one overproduction year for nuke vs. one underproduction year for Danault.

That's a huge gamble on what guy you're getting imo, he's gonna be getting salary and term.

Hell, people were complaining Danault's contract wouldn't be worth it in short order and that's with everything he brings to the table...can you imagine what he'd be getting paid if he had this season LAST season? 8 million ish? I'm sure Nuke is getting 7-8 for 5-6 years.

If you can get him for 4.5 mill/4 years - which, I have no idea if that's realistic at this juncture - I would do that deal in a heartbeat, as long as I knew I could jettison Iafallo. He's a clear upgrade there IMO.

I would also do that in a heartbeat and I think there's no chance whatsoever of that contract.

Yeah this offseason is SUPER intriguing, both the UFA and trade markets seem wide open for chaos. Very curious to see what kind of money gets thrown his way, but do you think it will be a bigger deal than what Danault got?

Danault got 5.5x6, I think Nuke gets more like 7.5x6 by someone basing their hope on this season.

Folks seem to be overlooking that fact that Danault was at 41.8% ozone starts for Montreal over his career. The season before signing with the Kings 36.2%. Imagine having those zone starts and being expected to score at 0.5pts per game? He was at 50.3% last season. Not saying he's gonna score 27, but he's not gonna score 8 with that deployment. Most of his goals were of the greasy variety with his lack of fear playing near the net and his quick hands. If the puck is on the ice near his stick, he wins that battle most of the time.

Oh wow if that happens I’d be floored I think. Just takes 1 GM though. Not a great comparison but Reilly Smith just got 5x3. Older but has more of a track record in the production dept.

It just takes one, yeah, and he's a UFA with everyone watching him right now.

Smith was already making 5x5, and the 5x3 is as yet unconfirmed, but that's to stay put without testing the market. If he were a UFA he might get a little more but he's 31 with injuries and possibly tapering production. that 5x5 was his real 'payday' contract.

Nichuskin's highest AAV so far was half of that. THIS is his big payday.

Gonna be REALLY interesting to watch what Winnipeg does not with Dubois throwing a stick in their wheels....

Schiefele smoke around trading him, Dubois basically saying, trade me I ain't sticking around.....maybe it's me being stupid....(a lot of you guys already agree and I don't even have to go further)

But Make a play for Connor and Dubois......2022 1st, 2023 1st, Turcotte, Vilardi, Durzi, Faber, If you don't think Kempe can continue, throw him in there? not sure.... maybe take out some pieces add in Byfield (if you think he will struggle, AND...AND AND AND AND...you have permission to speak to Dubois about long term plans...)

I know the crapton of people here that think 1sts and prospects are infinitely more valuable than actual NHL production will just go apeshit...... and I have no idea what Winnipeg is thinking except...oh shit we are screwed in a year or two....

Connor and Dubois would be nice additions. I can see the Rangers going after Dubois. He may cost the standard 1st, roster player and prospect.
Iafallo, Vilardi, 1st vs Nemeth, Kakko, 1st.
Connor would cost a lot more I think.

Depends on where Winnipegs mindset is at, if Schiefele is an issue...and Dubois is gone.....what's left....thats why I said, one helluva package, might get you both guys.....I don't know if you can do it without Byfield....hell I don't even know if you want to do it WITH Byfield...but he's 19, Dubois is what 23....so you are really splitting hairs there

They're definitely in a rock and a hard place deal right now but there's been so much smoke there for years with Wheeler and Schiefele, prior Byfuglien/Kane, etc...

If I'm the GM at this point I'm going scorched earth and saying f*** it time for a new locker room and lets get something for these pieces since we're stuck in the black hole otherwise.

That's kinda what I was thinking...if they do that, I don't see how 30 other teams aren't looking at Dubois and Connor and...looking in their cupboard for the biggest juciest breadcumbs they can find

Kurtis MacDermid will be lifting the Stanley Cup in a few hours. And since he played in most of the games this season for Colorado he'll be getting his name engraved into as well. Happy for him.

What I read around here though is he's the reason the Kings lost so much last season. A team winning the cup with him should be impossible.

I thought Colorado would win in six. Tampa’s D seemed too slow to overcome the Avs speed. And now that we’re here, I’m not so sure anymore. The Lightning have shown they get better as series go deeper. Hopefully we get a game 7.

Crazy stat, Avs 8-1 on the road this postseason. “Just” 7-3 at home.
