I watched hurling in a pub with some locals in a small town in Ireland. That shit had me hooked.
Me too! It was awesome. I wanted to get tickets to a game in Limerick, but the home team was playing on the road the that weekend. They are the Limerick Buttermilks. With a name like that, you need to have some tough SOBs on your team.

One of the best players in Ireland plays for Limerick and his name is Seamus Flanagan. It doesn't get more Irish than that.

It’s like baseball, hockey, rugby and soccer together. What’s not to like?

The Rangers have 6 players with zero AHL experience: Panarin, Kakko, Lafreniere, Fox, Miller, and Trouba.

Aho, Svechnikov, Staal, Domi and Stepan on the Hurricanes never played in the minors, and they have a few others who only appeared in a handful of games in the AHL.

The Leafs have some obvious names who didn’t spend time in the AHL either.

The graph does have some oddities like Point on there, who appeared in 9 AHL games, and Kucherov, who only appeared in 14 games and tore up the league.

Of course the AHL wants to pad its alumni, but it also stands out in showing how some really productive AHL players put up big numbers in their time there, like Rantanen, whereas the Kings seem to struggle with forwards developing there.
All those guys you listed are very skilled. Under Lombardi, aside from Toffoli and later Kempe [I'm probably missing someone else], they never drafted for skill. It was will and character over skill. He was drafting a Sutter type team. It seemed like draft after draft it was always 3rd line type player , although not having any picks in rounds 1 and 2 didn't help either with guys who could score. And when they did, Sutter would scare the skill right out of them. You miss a check, or make a move to score instead of dumping it in, you're benched and scratched for 10 games. This happened to Weal and others a few times. As much as I like what Sutter did as a coach, he also hurt the young guys development as much as anyone.

As for today, that's a good question why there's no real stand outs yet. It took Kempe like 6 seasons to get it. Blake has drafted a bunch of guys who can score, and it just might take a bit longer for them to figure it out too. IDK, maybe because the Kings teach the kids to be able to play defense , not just go on attack all the time. As much as people love to praise the Ducks young guys, they're awful on defense. Zegras and his -21 really stand out, but hey, he sure can score. Not sure if you want your number 1 center to suck at faceoffs and be a minus every night, but he still got his 1 or 2 points that night.

Right but the Rangers had 24 players play in the playoff this year, 18/24 = 75%, same as the Avs.

For Carolina 17/22 = 77%

The Ducks, not a playoff team, had 41 different players dress this season (excluding the EBUG who played 3 minutes). The only one with 0 AHL experience was Fowler.

Only Kopitar, Iafallo, and Doughty haven't played in the AHL from our squad, 20/23 = 87% and we were out in the first round.

Its just such a meaningless statement to say "look 75 & 82% of the players in the Final developed in the AHL" when you're also putting out articles like: 597 AHL grads begin season on NHL rosters showing that 82% of opening night rosters were AHL grads and 87% of players from the prior season where AHL grads.

There should be a minimum number of games played in the AHL to consider yourself a graduate.

like... 100 games?

Graduate isn’t codified anywhere. For the purposes of preseason games, veteran status is explicitly defined on the cba. Afaik, 100 nhl games is one of the criteria.

Colorado can aid their cause tremendously tonight, if they score the first couple of goals in the game.

Brilliant insight. You should start a blog cast.
I know, it's the kind of cutting edge stuff the Mayor puts out all the time. The point is Tampa has a way of coming back even when they are two goals down in a game, but this Colorado team is different from the other teams they have been able to come back on in playoff games.

I will say this. You are consistent, as in almost always being a dick.

Yeah, it's offside. That one is going to be called back. More cutting edge analysis by me, which I am sure our resident dick will point out.

I can still see this going six or seven games, but Tampa is going to have to establish a forecheck for that to happen.
Avs still havent unloaded their heavy ordnance ie Mackinnon and Rantanen.. they have another gear .. i think its 5 games - the wildcard is Kuemper.. where is Burakovsky i wonder

I really think Tampa should try to stay out of the penalty box. It could really help them in todays game.

Maroon just scored. For the Lightning that is typically as good as an Auerbach cigar being lit.

Colorado defense is really stuggling tonight, letting guys drive to the front and leaving guys alone in the slot

I hope they keep Francouz in net for the rest of the series.. Kuemper looked like junk since game 1
