I can't imagine Beauvillier would be available, but i'd be all for it. Have to imagine the Isles know the whole team is underperforming and I doubt they get rid of a guy that good that young.

That being said, does LA really need another guy who would be 40 pts here with maybe a shot at more upside? I think we have enough lottery tickets that trading for one seems lateral.

the big difference is the ducks have really put their prospects into big positions and got something out of them, I feel like the kings made a few moves to bring in vets instead of letting their young talent get looks.

Obviously all the prospects are still young in both orgs and well get to see them all develop in nhl at some point, but as a fan of hockey I’m a little disappointed the kings gave those spots to vets…. I was excited to potentially see a lot of your young guys in key positions.

Yes and no. Did we inject Byfield or Turcotte into the lineup? Byfield yes, but obviously he got hurt.

Turcotte has missed a ton of games due to injuries and hasn't really even played that many games down in the AHL. Kid just can't stay healthy.

Kaliyev has been sheltered mainly on the 4th line but also has gotten a ton of PP time. Does he deserve a spot on the top 2 lines...? That's anyone's guess.

Players Under 23 In The Lineup On a Nightly Basis
F
Andersson, Lias - 23
Kaliyev, Arthur - 20
Kupari, Rasmus - 21
Anderson-Dolan, Jaret - 22 (finally got recalled recently)

D
Björnfot, Tobias - 20
Anderson, Michael - 22
Durzi, Sean - 23

We did trade for Arvidsson and signed Danault in the off-season. Both players filled in the gap between kids and vets. The Athanasiou re-signing is probably the weirder one, where that spot could have easily been given to a youngin. Funny thing is AA was injured as well as in COVID protocol so he hasn't played much this season.

Brown is a UFA after this year and should not be signed so that opens up a spot next year as well.

I don't think our problem is more kids needed in the lineup (unless the kid's play down in Ontario really deserves it). It's the middle tweeners that really need to take the next step and start to produce when Kopitar can't... ie Iafallo, Moore, Kempe, etc.

Our D has hurt since we lost Doughty to a ton of games as well as Sean Walker. For whatever reason Matt Roy hasn't really stepped up in their absence.

Thank God we signed Edler for a year because he's been impressive to say the least in his role.

To be fair, this team is just an enigma because when Doughty got hurt we ton a ton of games in a row then lost a ton before and after that. Chalk it up to growing pains.

I think the biggest difference that makes this situation between LA and Anaheim stand out RIGHT NOW is that Byfield got injured early in the season and Turcotte and seen his share of injuries and kept him out of the lineup while Zegras and Drysdale have excelled in their positions. Zegras is such a gamer I think the entire league is jealous where Anaheim drafted him at.

It could possibly be a challenge, you have players from different countries vocalizing. So what happens to those players from say, Russia , who are 100% all in if the NHL opts out. I guess that might violate their contract? There wouldn't be insurance for injury and other complications.

Imagine the whinging from now until the end of time if Ovechkin goes against the NHL, gets suspended, and misses Gretzky's goal record by a couple.

Per Friedman, China authorities impose stiff COVID requirements (and CHina currently spiking in COVID Delta cases)

-if player tests positive for COVID, quarentine 3 to 5 weeks in china, cannot be released without permission of local authorities, if you test positive (symptomatic) must have 2 negative tests after after all symptoms disappear (minimum 21 days )
if non symptomatic, 2 negative tests. And all subject to review of Chinese authorities, so it could change.

NHLPA/players will have 2 virtual meetings this week to ask questions. What happens if a large percentage of players decline to go. But there are rumblings that like Lehner, some players won't want to participate based on those restrictions.

Friedman also mentions the IIHF 5 million dollar fund created to help pay players who miss time post Olympics , (test positive). But what if that fund runs out? Friedman says the NHL says they are clear , the NHLPA disputes that.

Should not have agreed to go, for COVID and other reasons.
… and China wins the gold medal in ice hockey!!

Or goes , gets sick and has to quarentine for a possible 5 weeks, and also get susupended. How's that gonna look?

You got to love Prongers honesty when asked about Zegras's pass over the net. " As a defenseman, you get one shot to do it, and after that, you're gonna pay the price" You know if someone did that to him, he'd crosscheck them into the 3rd row the next shift.

I have yet to see anyone give Milano credit for being ready and able to bat that puck out of the air and put it in the net. It's weird how that's been totally overlooked.

If someone tests positive but is asymptomatic is that the vaccine working? Honest question. I am more on the side of lockdowns, restrictions, masks etc. but just wondering at what point is this just something that is ok as long as it is asymptomatic?

You still don't want it to spread. The next person may not be asymptomatic.

But yes, the vaccine is working even if you test positive. It reduces the symptoms and gets rid of the virus faster than not having the antibodies to fight it off.

Overall any vaccine protects against severe disease, but not necessarily against getting infected in the first place. It just primes the immune system to recognize and kill things before they build up. There is no way to tell for sure on a case-by-case basis when that happens though. Could be a vaccine, could just be dumb luck. Most of the time it's likely the vaccine which is why you see nearly 90% of hospital admits here in Orange County being unvaccinated.

Think of it like one of those tower defense video games. Once you get stuff built up, you can slaughter stuff as soon as it appears. That's like being vaccinated. Being unvaccinated is like starting each level from scratch.

this is a great analogy!

I used to play a really cool Star Wars tower defense game
