Listen Now — Cam and Strick Podcast

An interview with him during a podcast (just after the 1 hour mark) But right at the 2 hour mark, he is talking about the first cup and then is asked about Darryl Sutter. It sounds like he was as cranky as he appeared. Right about the 2:06 mark, he tells of a team meeting in that first year with the kings player veteran leaders and Sutter, coaches, etc. He said Sutter said that 'I guess the new coach doesn't get to pick the Captain so you're stuck with me'.

He also said Brown was the brunt of SUtter's wrath.
The did ask him about how it ended in LA, painkillers, etc.

He did say he has had job offers from the NHL but isn't ready yet. ONly recently started watching the NHL again. I hope eventually he does, because I think he'd be a good special teams coach, PP and PK were his speciality.

Love the Stick giveaway good for him, but man had another Dahlin special on the ice. Kids been having a few defensive blunders the past few years. So much talent but he's had an adventure playing defense for sure. Hope the Sabres don't ruin this kid.

Not surprised at all about any of this. His treatment of Brown was straight up petty because he couldn't pick the captain. We'd have ended up with his favorite player Dwight King as captain . No wonder he demanded it in his new contract and DL caved and gave him what he wanted.

Dwight King outplayed Dustin Brown every night after the first Cup was raised.

Sutter knows hockey and knew Brown was no leader - no wonder he wanted the change. Sutter had to break the mold he inherited to win. The real question is why the organization went right back to that unsuccessful mold right after he left. That decision has been part and parcel of the Kings troubles over the past 7 seasons - Brown and Kopitar are role models, not leaders.

Listening to Richards talk about Sutter makes the shelf life talk make sense. Guy knows hockey but it’s a hard style he has to be with a team indefinitely.

yup Sutter is a great great coach, but definitely has a shelf life. At the absolute latest he should have been canned when the team locked him out in Tampa, likely before then.

Welcome to the world of old boys club and nepotism.

Yeah, the shortened season right after the cup win where King had 10 points and Brown 29 is solid evidence of this.

Brown's production dropped because Sutter was an idiot with him and had no idea how to get the best out of him. In the two seasons after Sutter was fired Brown had the same amount of points as Dwight King had over his entire career. Brown certainly dropped off a little, but when production jumps like that (and continues to be solid) when a coach leaves it's obvious what the problem is.

Maybe it's revisionist history, but I seem to remember alot of players talking about how good of a leader Brown was back then.

Sutter is a great coach, Brown is a great player. They just had a shelf life together.

It's not revisionist. Brown was named an Olympic alternate captain - twice. He won the foundation in 2011. He won the fricken Messier Leadership Award in 2014. You don't get those accolades unless you are a tremendous leader.

Inferring Brown wasn't a leader would be revisionist.

thank you

Speaking of Sutter, he really has that Flames team clicking right now. It is so reminiscent of the old Kings teams(especially when you see Lewis and Lucic out there playing big roles). The heavy forecheck is there and they are dominating possession nearly every game. Hell, even the halfwall breakout is there, just a little adjusted towards the neutral zone. I've honestly been enjoying watching the Flames this year.

Sutter was a piece of shit who knew how to get a team going for no more than 3 years.
