Sorry to perpetuate.

It's all good and that's why I'm not flagging anyone for earlier posts, it's easy to get carried away when our individual personal values get wrapped up in what the league is or isn't doing and how that also connects to the big picture. I think we've found out over the last year more than ever that this forum has a passionate crowd in all respects of life and whether or not we agree I respect and appreciate that.

We walk a fine line with the above discussions in the covid thread, I'm simply trying to remind everyone here that 1. the NHL isn't the government; 2. A private organization will have different priorities/values here than either individuals OR the government (in other words, one could probably easily argue this is simply the nhl protecting its bottom line, not being a moral leader, and no one would be right and we could argue in circles); 3. The NHL is an international organization and subject to the freedoms and restrictions in the state of Florida as well as those of the province of British Columbia, they have to find a middle set of standards that 'fit' everyone's criteria; 4. arguing with one another in this context is, frankly, pretty futile.

I don't say all that to stifle discussion, rather it's just to remind everyone that the center of the discussion is the NHL policies/procedures here.

As Kirill Kaprizov contract talks go silent, Wild GM admits there are 'some obstacles'

Crazy to think that restricted free agents such as Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes, Buffalo’s Rasmus Dahlin, and Ottawa’s Brady Tkachuk are still unsigned.

Brings me back to the Doughty signing days...

I really wanted Seattle to go after Perrersson with an offer sheet. Get that rivalry going from day 1. Maybe they did and Elias did not want to do it.

I have no idea what Minnesota's plan is, particularly with all that dead cap. Not surprised their having problems with Kaprisov, but I'm glad he's not our headache.

I’m just waiting for the media to all do a 180 from praising Guerin for the “boldness” of the moves. Parise is one thing, but in the age of LTIR retirements and with Suter still playing well those moves just don’t hold up. He basically guaranteed they won’t be competitive for 3 years after this upcoming single season of cap relief.

Back in the day it seemed the norm for a handful of RFAs to hold out for a good portion of the season. I remember going to a Devils/Kings game on Thanksgiving 2000 and Jason Arnott/Scott Niedermayer had finally signed their deals. There was a humorous time when ESPN had Buffalo for a game and the broadcast called holdout captain Mike Peca and talked to him as the game was going on.

the Suter buy out still baffles me.

Apparently he was just that bad in the locker room despite being useful on the ice. Seemed like Staal and Suter weren't exactly setting the best example and they decided they needed to shake things up as everybody seemed a bit complacent. They have some guys on ELCs on the horizon, but things can get messy if Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi struggle.

Fine, than eat 20-40% of his contract and deal him for nothing. Although I guess his NMC would have blocked that.

Pronman: Most interesting NHL prospect to watch in training camp for every team
Los Angeles: Arthur Kaliyev, RW, Ontario-AHL

It’s expected 2020 No. 2 pick Quinton Byfield will be with the Kings, so the most interesting prospect going into camp is Kaliyev. Kaliyev was good in the AHL for a teenager and was a great junior. He has tremendous playmaking and finishing ability, but scouts have reservations on his skating and compete. I think people will be skeptical on the 33rd pick in 2019 until he shows he can do it in the NHL. There are roster spots to be had in L.A., and now would be the time for Kaliyev to prove himself.

Can't really disagree. And with how much they seem to be smiling over Kaliyev, I expect him to really burst through. He's a guy who seems to just 'get it' and with a similar work ethic to match his IQ.

Word is he wants 5 years [or more] @9 mil...after playing ONE damn season. He had a really good 1st year, but I just can't see them dishing out that money for a one year wonder. Play a few years and earn that coin. I can't believe I'm bringing this guy up , but [never was going to sign with the Kings] Kubilik would be a contract I'd be look at. Same solid 1st year, and was paid a show me contract.

I would love to see Kaliyev make the team, but what are these "roster spots to be had in LA"? When they signed Danault and re-signed Athanasiou, the top 9 appear to be filled, right?
Centers: Kopitar, Danault, Vilardi
Left Wing: Iafallo, Athanasiou, Andersson/Moore
Right Wing: Brown, Arvidsson, Kempe

So basically you have Kaliyev, Byfield, and Kupari competing for 4th line minutes or trying to beat out a guy with a $2.7 million contract? Reeeeeally slow walking these prospects.

New Jersey Devils Announce Several PTOs

Devils add some potential depth to forward and d.

The New Jersey Devils have added several interesting names to training camp, signing Jimmy Vesey, Mark Jankowski and Tyler Wotherspoon to professional tryout contracts. All three will be there when training camp opens for the Devils on September 22.

Jankowski probably has a better shot at earning a contract than Vesey. Seems like the Devils are keeping a center spot open to see if Dawson Mercer can earn the job in preseason. If he needs AHL time, then Jankowski makes some sense although he could work as a healthy scratch forward as well. We're definitely lacking some right shot RWs, so I wouldn't be shocked if they claimed somebody once teams start paring down their rosters.

I'd be surprised to see all of Vilardi, Athanasiou, and Kempe still on the Kings by the end of the year.

You also for got JAD in the lineup.

Its hockey, you have to assume 1 or 2 of those guys will be injured at any given time.

Likely the 3 will spend some time in the AHL, they'll spend some games on the 4th line, but there ought to be stretches where an opportunity in the top 6/9 presents itself for a couple games/weeks.

But that's not roster spots to be had. You can make an argument for 16 forwards, based on experience and/or contract, before you get to Byfield or any of the others.
