Gas taxes are outrageous here, but they are going away before long, at least. I haven't paid them in years, just buy electric. After rebates it didn't cost much more than a gas car, and it's saving me well over $150 a month, which actually made the payments cheaper. Not to mention the complete lack of maintenance, brakes never need to be done, etc. Basically just tires and little things. Best thing I ever did.

forgive my ignorance…the electric car does move and you have to stop it. Why would you not need brake maintenance

Easy to win if you can cheat. Clearly LTIR was not meant to circumvent the cap, but TB figured it out so kudos to them. Having said that f**k em anyway.

Remember this trade from the Leafs: Clarkson and a 4th for Sparks

After acquiring David Clarkson's contract, we show the #Leafs with a projected cap hit of $82,234,699 ($734,699 above the $81.5M ceiling) with a roster of 22 (12F/8D/2G) Leafs can still place Horton & Clarkson on LTIR and potentially exceed the ceiling by as much as $10.55M

Leafs had space to sign Marner because of 2 guys who have "retired" with injuries hiding in LTIR.
CBA allows it, not much you can do.

If Kucherov was actually healthy well before the playoffs started, then there might have been a rule broken since LTIR would no longer apply to him. I doubt the NHL will look into it so I'm not going to dwell on it.

Kucherov's recovery timeline (and subsequent cap relief for the Lightning) was a little too convenient, as was having hip surgery Dec 29, 2020. THe recovery time was given as 5 to 6 months. Convenient that works out to when the playoffs start.

They timed it so they could cheat , he couldn't come back prior because of the CAP. ANd no Savard.

Friedman and LeBRun said just about every GM was upset. Wondering if it came up at the GM meeting (virtual) today.

modern hybrids/evs utilize a lot of regenerative braking systems to boost mileage/battery efficiency, not too dissimilar in "theory" from engine braking on manual transmissions

on slowing, the motors basically become generators to capture the "unused" kinetic energy of the vehicle rolling to feed the battery packs, you're just sorta shifting a chunk of the load off the brake pads to the generation, so the pads/rotors last much longer

Whilst they never technically broke the rules you can guarantee that if he was ahead of schedule in his rehab that they wouldn’t have activated him off of LTIR. I mean, how would that have even worked if he was declared fit 2 weeks before the regular season ended?Hypothetically what would the consequences have been, does anyone know?

thanks! That totally makes sense.

He wouild have been off LTIR in March if he'd had the surgery in SEp or Oct. THey timed it so he'd come off LTIR just for the playoff run.

It will be interesting to see if they can find someone to bail them out going forward...

I had (2) electric's the past decade. You can set how high you like your regenerative braking. Higher and it will brake more for you when you take your foot off the gas. Less and, well, you get the idea.

I always turn my regenerative braking all the way up and just take my foot off the gas in time so the vehicle nearly stops itself. Moreover, I have a paddle I can pull next to my steering wheel that also helps brake the vehicle. To boggle your mind even more I typically use both in combination.

It takes a day to get used to it but on the occasional once-every-couple-of-years I have to drive a 'normal' car I am in a poo poo mood all day because I miss my EV, mainly the regenerative braking.

Yeah, unless you are zipping around you really don't need brakes at all if your EV can regenerate to a full stop. 1 pedal driving.

1 pedal driving??? Might as well take the bus!

yeah as much as i like the tech, the gutless CVTs and 25 speed automatics keep me from new cars.. i do still want to drive my truck, not operate it

the gear searching on my tow pig's 3spd auto is bad enough, i can't imagine how annoying it is with these modern autos

so lame, bragging about cheating effectively.. goobers

these 2 cups will always have a * next to them anyway so it's whatever.. enjoy it cause they're gonna be in the basement before long just like everyone else

CA is already planning to tax people based on miles driven eventually. There's no escape.

you're right, a gps signal can't escape from a faraday cage :]
You can be sure if the California state government gets no signal from your car for an extended period of time, your odometer will be audited.

"Just get an electric car." Where do I plug it in? I have to park on the street. Do I get an extension cord?

These last few years have been a real eye opener, that's for sure. Bizarre how many people here somehow hold allegiance to the LA Kings while seemingly hating the city and the state they are in.

Also, Kucherov is a :eek::eek::eek::eek:.
