The Oilers having 5 in hand isn't such a great thing, since it means they have to fit in 5 more games than we do between now and the end of the season. They have back to backs coming.

This is why I never took the idea of them catching the Canucks seriously. At one point, they had seven games in hand on us, indicating their schedule was about to become brutal.

I've been saying for a while that the Canucks' schedule was a double-edged sword. They were playing a ton of games in a condensed period, but this setup allowed them to coast with space between games for the stretch drive, which is optimal for avoiding injury and getting in practice time
