That team was screwed from the time that Matthews and Marner squeezed out every possible dollar they could get.

I'm not saying they should have taken less than their worth, but they pushed the envelope based on what salaries were at the time. I think this indicated to the rest of the group that individual success was more important than team success, and that attitude has pervaded since.

The whole trajectory of that team could have been altered if they'd traded Marner when he held out. But the spreadsheet kids like Dubas don't take time to think about team culture; they can't quantify it so in their mind it doesn't exist.

This is a big reason why I didn't have a problem trading Horvat; he was asking for a contract that he would underperform from day 1, and that sends a terrible signal to the rest of the group.
We are about to learn how big of a team player Pettersson is too. Doesn’t seem encouraging right now.

in no particular order:

i am fine with penalties carrying over to the next game. makes sense. if team does not dress the player in question it is served as a bench penalty.

jailbreak rule seems a little gimmicky. will withhold judgment until i see it i guess. it could change the way teams defend the pk so why not try it. might force the return of 2dmen on the point on the pp.

can't tell the difference between a goal celebration and what grieg did. both are celebrating not taunting. assuming it was some breach of etiquette rielly should have challenged him. a crosscheck to the head is a garbage play no matter what the provokation.

rielly is guilty of intent to injure and seems out of character. can't help but think it is keefe's over the top intensity getting into his head though. does seem more like something rielly might feel like he is expected to do.

Should a tripping penalty carry over?

I think there is farrrr to much grey zone here that would just create what ifs.. whatabouts and whining

i think everything carries over. if you took a penalty you should serve your time.

and if the rule is clear there are no what ifs.

also, people dunking on football need to spend time with serious american football fans which means the guys who follow college as much or more than the nfl.

after a few business trips to the us south i came to understand i did not understand. there's several games going on at once in a football game.

No way
Win 2 pts
Ot win 2pts
Ot loss 0 points
Shootout loss 0 points

If they want to keep this bullshit make it matter

That could make OT even worse as coaches could be even more afraid to get nothing. Although it would probably make games tied in the third more interesting. I’d bring ties back as I’ve never had the “must be a winner” mindset for regular season games.

Do you think they would coach to get to a shootout?

Tangentially related to the NHL but it's good to know that Fanatics is also producing a terrible product for other leagues.

That looks like a temu special, jesus h.

Idk fanatics also got MLB, surprised I thought only the nhl would go with that trash tier supplier.

edit - On the bright side my Chinese knockoffs are now much better quality than game worn official jerseys

Honest question, was anybody really bothered that much about Wolman's stupid little dance? Why do I just notice people talking about it now? As an old white guy, a member of the group that is supposedly outraged, I am at a loss.

The Merzlikins celebration annoyed me more, but even that was such a nothing burger.

Yeah this is what the game needs, two dmen on the PP. Exhilarating.

Yeah I bought off a knockoff site and just asked for pictures before they shipped so I could complain before I got them.

Ordered 3 baseball jerseys and there were very minor things but you have to really be looking for it.

Wait doesnt contrarian refer to against popular opinion rather than just contrasting in viewpoint?

i was intending to use it in the narrow sense of you simply contradicting my viewpoint without more, but the dictionary thinks it especially means someone who goes against popular opinion so i'll be more careful using it in future lest it be misconstrued as implying that. thanks.

I'm really enjoying this Leafs meltdown.

They're all like "nobody will mess with us now!" because Reilly had a tantrum over an EN goal but now everyone knows how easy it is to get in their heads. The pundits are all like "this is the team finally showing emotion" but it's over something so stupid and irrelevant it just shows that the team lacks any kind of cohesion.

Now the fans are pumped up about Keefe even though this embarrassing display should have been the end of the road for him and shows he can't focus the team on the things that actually matter.
Remember the first game vs the Canucks this year when they got pummeled physically. The fans and pundits after the game were spinning it like the Canucks were outmatched physically by the Leafs. In reality the Canucks pretty pummeled the Leafs with huge clean hits.

I didn't mean it in a corrective type of way it was more coming across as inquisitive as it would be interesting for instance a poll to see how many people would like that type of rule change. Just a simple yes or no without delving into what it improves or doesn't.

Is college American football that much better than the NFL? American football is just slow. That's the issue with the sport. It's three and a half hours, and the clock only runs for 60 minutes. This means that there are like 2 hours of nothing happening. Baseball games, in contrast, last 2:42 minutes, and they've tried to shorten the game length.

One of the main reasons I really fell in love for baseball is for the fact you can’t run a clock out. You could be up 9-3, but you still have to get 27 outs instead of time wasting.

Football makes me pull my hair out just for this alone.
