Unless it's for the entire season, they would need to be cap compliant later in the season to bring him off LTIR. In season moves are much harder to make. Are they really betting on someone else with a sizeable cap hit to be injured at roughly the same time Kane gets reactivated?

EDM writers all but confirming he's going to be out for the season.

Just going off that tweet from Stauffer, which only said he would not be ready for the start of the season. Which is a far cry from saying that this surgery would take him out from Oct all the way to the middle of April of 6 months. Something doesn't tie to go from not ready for the start of the season, to being out all 82 games.

Given the Oilers current cap situation, and cap situation moving forward, someone should just offer-sheet any decent RFAs they have every summer.

LOL well at least the OIlers have Jeff Skinner.

Probably not a coincidence that the Oilers leaked the news that Kane will likely start the season on LTIR. Gives them space to match.

as far as offer sheets go, this is way more reasonable than the aho one though.

st louis doesn't have any big upcoming rfas (at least none before armstrong is out as gm), edmonton needs to grind every penny they can, and unlike the aho offer sheet it didn't happen on july 1st and it's not like they could be signing many other players in the next week.
