honestly if the Canucks did manage to fix the pp they might actually had made the finals…

Special teams are a big reason with EDMs success this post season, their new coach really gave them new life

That's what is so shit about how we went out. Multiple opportunities to finish the series but couldn't because of our shit PP. Imagine if Tocchet had actually done something during the regular season instead of just continuing with the same strategy and hoping things would work out.

4 of the 5 last post season he has made it to at least the conference final

I don’t think he’s the problem

How many times do his teams need to be the favourite and lose for him to be the problem? Because he’s made a career out of this.

Hoping Tocchet can be a fraud and lead us to half as many WCF’s.

DeBoer is a very good coach. He’s also getting out coached by a guy who started the year in the AHL.

He’s very good at getting great rosters on the precipice of greatness then watch it all crumble away. Some of it is his fault and some of it is just the winds of fate.

Pete Deboer has had many skilled teams in their prime (except NJ in 2012) where the expectation was to win a cup.

Beat me to it.

At this point Knoblauch deserves credit. The special teams is top tier and they’re going to advance to the SCF because of it - something Tocchet has zero grasp of to fix. I don’t see it as much of a knock to Deboer. Just sucks for him to not be able to get over the hump but he gets his teams deep.

Dallas had a path that was going to destroy them physically against Vegas and Colorado. Hintz and Tanev are playing at like 50% at best.

Wonder if the Oilers will get Campbell'd in the SCF and just not even be playing special teams lol

For a team that finished first in the West they had a brutal path.

We were 100 seconds away from seeing LA-Dallas and Edmonton-Vegas in Round 1.

This would have flipped the script. Instead, the seas opened up for a relatively easy path for the Oilers while Dallas had to bust through 2 top teams. You need luck some years and Edmonton got it. Nothing wrong with that though. Full credit to them.

Would love to see us hire a PP coach for next year. Great leaders surround themselves by capable people who can do the things that they themselves cannot.

Looks like they’re going that route too.

Really isn’t much benefit to being an unreal regular season team other than home ice. Dallas has been one of the better road teams iirc too

Miller is a beast and clearly our best player.
Hintz is supposed to be the guy for Dallas. He either has a serious shoulder injury or broken ribs. Seguin/Duchene are one-way players and cannot do shit to contain McDrai.

Under Tocchet, VAN’s performance and results have exceeded their true talent level in 22-23, 23-24, and the playoffs.

This year’s team was probably around the 10th best in the league and they finished around the fifth best in the regular season and were the 5th last team alive in the playoffs.

The powerplay was bad in the playoffs, but you had your superstar playing like garbage and no proper 5th option. Every pp was 3 guys being overloaded. Tocchet eats some of that and he definitely didn’t maximize what was there… but there wasn’t a high ceiling even if he did.

VAN needs to rethink the way they go about the PP, but you know what’s about 10x more important than that?

Adding another top six forward and top four defenseman to this roster without taking much of a hit anywhere else. Demko staying healthy.

Most tocchet criticism I read isn’t well thought out.

The only benefit if Edmonton were to win would be airheads would finally have to admit McDavid is one of the best ever. Incredible player.

He was injured in the Colorado series, rest of the team was relatively healthy. Didn't realize how bad there defense is, Tanev and Suter look slow, Petrovic playing regular minutes.

yes tough pill to swallow

And Brock and broken fingernails and stuff. Hopefully some players learned a lot about themselves and what is required to win in the playoffs

Wait i though the Oilers were just gonna get roasted by Dallas?
