So Callahan is out due to injury and Palmieri added to take his place. Why add Kessel, a top goal scorer, who proved in this year's playoffs he does just fine south of the top 6. Who needs goal scoring in a skilled competition. Team USA destined to fail again, skill vs will generally always works in world cups/Olympics. Like having Dubinsky on the team and Tyler Johnson off. Why have Shattenkirk when you can have Jack Johnson?
Other teams have skill throughout the lineup, which is going to be the downfall, again, of team usa.

Palmieri did have 30 goals to Kessel's 26 last year.

Yes, he did have a great year and I'm sure next yr if he's playing with Hall he'll pot a bunch. But he's never scored more than 14 in the 5 yrs prior. Kessel is a more proficient and consistent goal scorer, averaging 27 per season to Palmieri's 12. I like Palmieri but I think Kessel is more dangerous.
Then again, Torts's distaste for Kessel probably had a lot to do with it.
Some of the Team USA choices for me were head scratchers...given who wasn't added.

Kessel got surgery on his hand and probably isn't available to play

Actually he might be, according the to TSN podcast, the surgery was July 8th with 4 to 6 week timeframe. Jim Rutherford said Kessel injured the hand last summer and played all year with it. He said the surgery was minor, went well, etc.

It might have been a factor, or at least what the Team USA folks can cite but I don't think it would matter, I don't think he'd have been named anyway.

Looks like Kris Versteeg's playing career is taking a different path. He's expected to sign with Bern in Swiss League this wknd.

I thought he would be great depth in Edmonton in their bottom 6. They have addressed their size issues. He is experienced and been in winning cultures. Their system suites him a lot better then ours, looks like he will go cheap and he is extra insurance should they trade another top forward for defensive help.

Kinda surprised there would be no takers. Wasn't a fan of him in our system but a fan of his overall.

It might not be no takers, it might be that 4 teams in 5 years , he's tired of 1 yr deals and moving his f amily. Maybe they offered more.

One of the reasons Brad Richards said he made his decision months ago was (in addition to age and the fact he didn't like the way the league was changing) that he was tired of 1 yr deals.

Brayden Schenn's arbitration hearing 9 am Monday, Flyers offering 2 yrs w/ AAV of 4.33, He wants LTC AT 5.5 .

They've been trying to trade him for 3 yrs...which is why Hextall didn't sign him last summer when he locked down Couturier and made no effort to sign him all year. He should be easier to move once he's signed.

So the NBC/NBCSN schedule was announced. I'm guessing the split between the "I want more Kings games on national TV. No respect!" crowd and the "We suck in national TV anyway so we good!" crowd is even.

No, I don't think anybody wants more national games, especially when people out of market have Center Ice and have access to their choice of feed.

So Hextall is eager to Schennd him out of town? ...crickets...

TSN reporting that Enroth about to sign a contract with the Leafs. Andersen and Enroth are a good tandem for them.

Enroth was very unhappy with his limited role with the Kings and said so at season's end.

Wanted more starts and will get that in Toronto.

B. Schenn would look good in a Kings uniform...eh nevermind.

We knew that deal might be one sided eventually but not so much that Schenn and Simmonds are stars in Philly and we are stuck with 10 million in debt and no player.

Schenn isn't a star not even close. And hopefully not a Flyer much longer. Simmonds is and depending on your measuring stick, is how the trade went.
Kings got 3 Conference FInals and 2 Stanley Cups since that trade.

Flyers have 1 playoff round victory in 5 years and are years away from being close.

IMO, still a win for the Kings.
