As bad as that Lucic contract is, it's only 1 year longer (at this point) and less then 200k more then Brown's.

:shakehead

if you guys need me I will be over in the corner curled up in the fetal position crying. I have been cringing at Lucic's contract since he signed it and he is 5x the player Brown is right now.

I loved Lucic's game as he made whatever line he was on better but at least Brown doesn't take as many selfish, stupid penalties as Lucic did/does.

Bruins kicking the tires on Kris Russell

Russell reportedly turned down 4 yrs/17 M from the Leafs, believed to be wanting 6 ys/30M. Leafs then elected to sign Polak short term instead.

Bruins are thought to be shopping Ryan Spooner and /or David Krejci to get a defenseman

Author wisely points out that Russell isn't much better than the d they have...might be good he wants more than they can offer.

Chris Johnson (Sportsnet) saying Demers took less $$ to sign in Fla. Said FLA is a now an attractive place to sign and drawing interest .

Yeah, the one good thing you can say about Brown's game of late is he still draws more penalties then anyone else on the team.

When Brown signed his contract he was coming off an 18 goal 29 point lockout shortened season, which extrapolates to roughly 51 points over 82 games. Lucic just signed his deal after scoring 55 points in 82 games. Is Lucic going to fall off a cliff like Brown? Probably not for a few years, but who knows. These guys are way more similar, as are their deals, than you want to admit.

Except that Lucic sticks up for teammates, can STILL score goals, and can STILL set up plays, but yeah, he'll probably turn into Brown in a few years.

Oh yeah and Lucic goes to the front of the net and screens the goalie!

Oh I agree. I hated the Brown contract when he signed it as well.

They really are. But Brown didn't sign to be some kind of high end enforcer for McDavid like the media is making Lucic to be . You can bet he'll have at least 4-5 fighting majors along with a few other dumb penalties like we all saw this year.

Brown still does, just like Lucic as well as others. The problem is our point men can't figure out how to get a shot through without it getting blocked, so screening the goalie becomes moot.

I think Tax rates are having a larger and larger role in contract decision for players. The Panthers are moving in the right direction but no doubt in my mind the tax rate helps them

There are only so many $6m wingers a team can have. Until he's gone, you have to figure Brown's contract is here to stay. Toffoli is probably going to get somewhere around 6. Gaborik, again, until he's actually gone, is taking up $5m himself.

I hope Gaborik score 25 this year and Vegas takes him

Yes, cause the Kings have a plethora of 25 goal scorers that they can just give away.

I get that thought but I would expose him and feel the only chance he gets taken is if he score 20+. Having Gaborik off the books ensures plenty of room to sign LA's only 30 goal scorer.

NHL Network had the two WJC U20 Gold medal games that Team USA won since 2010 on today, really fascinating to see how many guys on the 2013 team have become good NHL players.

Jones
Gibson
Trocheck
Gaudreau
Trouba
Gostisbehere
Miller
Galchenyuk

And guys like Grimaldi and McCabe are making their way.

The days of guys needing years in the minors are over.

Combination of better coaching and emphasis on strength and conditioning in the NCAA/CHL and the need for teams to have skilled players on elc's because of the cap.

That is also why hockey's "prime years" have moved closer to that of soccer and football. More guys coming in at 20 or 21, and more guys collapsing at 30 and 31.

I was hoping for it for sure, just never materialized. And if his wrist is as bad as the rumors I've heard, he's never going to be doing any wrecking again.

What have you heard about his wrist? I've always been a huge fan of his and watched a ton of him in Boston and his stick handling was not that bad in Boston. It was actually pretty good. It was quite horrible with the Kings. Wondered if it had anything to do with his wrists.

so how about them Panthers?

I like the Barkov, Trocheck, Reimer, and Ekblad deals.

Reimer is a sneaky good one. Luongo is 37 and having hip surgery. Reimer could be a #1 locked in for <$4M a year.

have to think next year when Ekblad and Smith kick in they could be hurting for cap space or to re-sing their RFA's, but has been a good summer if you are a Panther fan.

When it comes to the expansion draft they should beg vegas to take Jokinen or Bolland, because no way is anyone wanting Luo

the problem is we have brown's contract, if brown is not here lucic is, its as simple as that...we can't have both and then need to re-sign TT and pearson.
