I don't understand why Montreal would do this. Was there rumors of off ice issues or something like Richards/Carter? Doesn't make sense.

My guess was the blood clots was brought his cap hit down. Kopi has been consistently healthy throughout his career outside his one ankle injury

This, ever since Stamkos broke his leg he has not been the same.

Edit; State tax already discussed

Subban didn't seem to get along with the coach/GM. His NMC kicked in on July 1st, so moving him later would have been difficult. Definitely a stunner though.

I'm not sure I understand the Weber/Subban trade.

I don't understand it from the financial side for sure.
Nashville has been said to be struggling to make money and was on a budget.
Yet they trade a player they had already paid 51% of his salary in just 4 years. And after the next two he drops to 6M in actual salary.
For a player that is going to make more money over the time of the contract and be a higher cap hit.

don't they save actual money the next two years?

trying to wrap my head around the Weber/Subban trade as well as the Larsson/Hall trade. weird ****ing day for hockey

Not sure why people don't understand Larsson/Hall. The Oilers have needed D for like forever. I'm not even sure this is an overpayment. Hall has been potting 25 goals per year on a team that didn't have to play defense.

Yup,

I think the Oilers overpaid but at least it made sense. They filled a need.

The PK for Weber deal makes no sense to me from Montreal's POV

Hall is a top 10 LW and Larsson is a young unproven defenseman. pretty easy to not understand, especially when its rumored the Islanders were offering Edmonton way more

8.5 million a year for Stamkos is a great deal for Tampa Bay. He can get more if he becomes a free agent.

With the Devils being a horrible watch the last couple of seasons, I feel that Larsson is being undervalued while Hall is being overrated because he's Taylor Hall from a Canadian market.

NHL forwards, 2012-16, min 1,000 minutes, ranked by 5v5 PTS/60:
1. Sidney Crosby: 2.71
2. Jamie Benn: 2.54
3. Taylor Hall: 2.49

'over-rated', eh?
