Not one Tampa Bay forward averaged more than 19 minutes a night, the top-9 cutting off at around 16 minutes a night. This is significantly different than the previous year where they had five guys over that 19 minute mark with Stamkos going down so early. More than one way to win except the constant factor here is the otherworldly production out of Kucherov and Point, year after year. They won in spite of Stamkos’s decline in play by maximizing his power play effectiveness. Point had yet another remarkable post season…I wonder if he gets Marner/Matthews/Tavares money coming off of the bridge. Hedman, McDonaugh and Sergachev carried the mail on defence.

This is very similar to Toronto. Top-end forwards, one of whom (the team captain, no less) goes down, except in one situation, the star players exceed their expectations while in the other situation, we have the exact opposite, wherein the Rocket Richard winner scores one goal in 7 games. Yes, goalies win you games, but Vasilevskiy isn’t the reason why Tampa scores and Campbell (nor Andersen) should be the reason why Batman and Robin fall flat on their faces. I’ve been hard on Keefe but ultimately the coach doesn’t play the game-players need to earn their money. Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie and Holl may not have the same prestige as the aforementioned defenders but it’s good enough group to squeak past the first round, even with Muzzin going down. Toronto has had easy opponents in two consecutive years handed to them on a platter but failed to make the most of their situations. Might be time to make a significant change or two, whether it’s personnel, systematic/tactics based, or development wise.

Kucherov coming for Habs fans for celebrating a win

Not sure what he's talking about.

Not sure he even knows what he's talking about.

Any win against a team that circumvented the cap, and had a huge spending advantage accordingly, is to be celebrated.

Man the habs have a lot of draft picks.

I wonder if they begin to look to use those picks to get win now players. They've drafted a lot from 2018 onwards.

They will have a big offseason. They can retool their roster and upgrade the deficient areas and become a top 3 team in the Atlantic if Bergervin is bold enough to do so

Would make sense for them to go win now mode with Carey Price, they are quite terrible at drafting too.

"Defense wins Championships"

Tampa Bay hoists the Stanley Cup on a 1-0 victory, after winning game #7 in round #3 1-0 to advance to the final.

Andrei Vasilevskiy posted a shutout in all 4 rounds clinching games as well as the SCF last year for 5 straight series. Which earned him the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP this year.

In Tampa Bays 16 playoff wins they gave up only 21 goals against total or 1.31 GAA making them only need 2 goals or less to lock down wins to hoist a Cup.

This is not a Cinderella story of "anything can happen" this is a well built hockey team built from the goalie out.

This team is like 20 mil over the salary cap

The nightmare is finally over...until next year when the Bruins probably make another deep run after beating the Leafs in the 1st round again.

The one silver lining to come out of this Montreal playoff run is that they will probably horrendously overspend trying to keep this fluke core together, as well as extend Bergevin for a few years (which is hilarious because fans have wanted him fired for a while now because of how bad he is)

Hoping Danault gets 7M+ and Armia gets 5M+ on long term deals

All teams in playoffs are technically over the cap. They “accumulate” cap in year to take on reminder of the in year cap of good players at tdl.
If you count actual avv of all players it will be millions over salary cap.

Leafs sure love to find new ways to crush our spirit in the most horrific way imaginable. Losing as heavy favourites to our oldest and most hated rival after going up 3-1 and then watching that rival run it all the way to the finals has been particularly tough. Maybe an all-time low point (though that Game 7 against Boston in 2013 will always be hard to top).

My only hope is that the Leafs will run out of new ways to break our hearts and have no choice but to win something.

Fun fact, the Leafs had the second lowest GAA this playoffs and the top 3 teams in GAA this playoffs all faced Montreal who was 4th.

True, but Leafs goals against was based on facing the #18 ranked & lowest ranked playoff qualifying team that was #17 OA in GF (159 goals) during the regular season with Teams like NYR, Philly and Chicago that had more goals for and didn't even qualify for the playoffs.

Is it a true test of your goaltending if you're not even facing a team that is at least in the top 1/2 the league in goals for?

Freddy Andersen posted a 1.84 GAA and .936 sv% against the 3rd lowest scoring offense GF in Columbus the previous season and was also among the 2020 playoff leaders. (NHL Stats)

Is that much different then Campbell's 1.81 GAA and .934 sv% this year when you factor in QofC and the offense of the opposition? Nearly identical stats from 2 back to back playoff losses with one set of numbers convincing some that goaltending is secure moving forward.

To me this seems like a false sense of security to suggest Leafs have league wide strong enough goaltending, when you're using stats against only CBJ and Montreal pop gun offenses, when one provides context behind those numbers and the sample size from which they were obtained. IMO

Probably jealous. Hardcore fans vs fans that have relocated to Florida to escape the cold and Tampa is their 2nd team.

Maybe he looked outside the arena and saw the same as this reporter. For those who don’t speak the language, it’s midnight and she was expecting a party except got this.

FWIW, be it Habs fans or Leafs, you know either will be partying so hard for like 72 straight hours after a cup win.
