I remember some Islanders fan came barging in here all mad at me because I dared to say that Kucherov getting injured on an uncalled cross-check was bullshit. Talked about how it wasn’t the cross-check that injured him, like yeah ok buddy.

True, but Leafs goals against was based on facing the #18 ranked & lowest ranked playoff qualifying team that was #17 OA in GF (159 goals) during the regular season with Teams like NYR, Philly and Chicago that had more goals for and didn't even qualify for the playoffs.

Is it a true test of your goaltending if you're not even facing a team that is in the top 1/2 the league in goals for?

Freddy Andersen posted a 1.84 GAA and .936 sv% against the 3rd lowest scoring offense GF in Columbus the previous season and was also among the 2020 playoff leaders. (NHL Stats)

Is that much different then Campbell's 1.81 GAA and .934 sv% this year when you factor in QofC and the offense of the opposition? Nearly identical stats from 2 back to back playoff losses with one set of numbers convincing some that goaltending is secure moving forward.

To me this seems like a false sense of security to suggest Leafs have league wide strong enough goaltending, when you're using stats against only CBJ and Montreal pop gun offenses, to provide context behind the numbers. IMO
So you're saying defense doesn't actually win Championships? You seem to be all over the map here.

I mean NYI was a better defensive team than Tampa if we want to look at regular season numbers (that's the above you're quoting for MTL), but they lost to Tampa. They also faces one top 5 scoring team, 2 middle 10 teams and 1 bottom 10 team.

Every team MTL beat in the playoffs had superior GAA coming into the playoffs.

We can say that Toronto was a top 10 defensive team this year instead if you want to expand the sample to regular season. It does mean we lost to a team in the bottom half of the league in GAA though, so...

I remember saying when he resigned in TB that I hoped he would curse the day he spurned us, but he was right in the end!

Congrats to him for winning the Cup back to back but I don't think winning the Cup in Tampa is the same as winning the cup in Toronto with all due respect to Tampa. No one there cares about hockey the same way. People probably care more about the Buccaneers now that they won something with Tom Brady and most people there didn't give a shit about the NFL too.

If the Leafs were remember how to play hockey in crucial times and didn't choke all the time and won a cup here, I am sure he'd feel jealous despite having won twice in Tampa.

"Defense wins Championships"

Tampa Bay hoists the Stanley Cup on a 1-0 victory, after winning game #7 in round #3 1-0 to advance to the final.

Andrei Vasilevskiy posted a shutout in all 4 rounds clinching games as well as the SCF last year for 5 straight series. Which earned him the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP this year.

In Tampa Bays 16 playoff wins they gave up only 21 goals against total or 1.31 GAA making them only need 2 goals or less to lock down wins to hoist a Cup.

This is not a Cinderella story of "anything can happen" this is a well built hockey team built from the goalie out.
they are the Cap version of an All Star team.
best goalie in the league
best d-man in the league
3 #1 caliber d-men
3 world class forwards
...and quality depth throughout

I did the cap math on this just this morning.

TB has 3 Star forwards (Kucherov, Stamkos and Point) which have Hart, Art Ross, 2 X Rocket Richard, and 2 X playoff leading goal scorer (Point) and 2 X playoff scoring leader (Kucherov)
+ Norris and Conn Symthe winning Dman (Hedman) and Vezina and Conn Smythe winning Goalie (Vasilevskiy) for a total cap consumption of $42.125,000 mil AAV

vs

Leafs 4 core Forwards (including a Calder and Rocket) + backup level/experienced goalie (Campbell) for a total cap consumption of $42,155,616 mil AAV.

An All-star Top 5 vs Leafs Top 4 + goalie use the same Cap %.

We might even be heading for a 1st/2nd round matchup in next years playoffs in make or break season for Leafs core and Leafs management and this is how this match up cap wise.

Maybe he looked outside the arena and saw the same as this reporter. For those who don’t speak the language, it’s midnight and she was expecting a party except got this.

FWIW, be it Habs fans or Leafs, you know either will be partying so hard for like 72 straight hours after a cup win.

Bolts fan coming in peace. We were partying. Most of the parties moved to the beach bars and Ybor City. It was insane.

Hindsight, he laughs even harder for seeing a bunch of chokers on the team that despised him for not wanting to come live in cold as f*** country.

I mean if I had an option to get out of here and live in a beautiful place like Tampa and not have to pay taxes, hell yeah! Give me that every day over Toronto.

Tonight could be the official end of the 2020-21 season. :crossfing

The regular season was painful to watch playing the same teams over and over and over again with little to no variety.

However the playoffs have been highly entertaining with some great series and some fantastic hockey on display. Loved the physical play and intensity and the compete level on display.
Ya, too bad there's no hockey to watch until October. Sigh.
