Man the habs have a lot of draft picks.

I wonder if they begin to look to use those picks to get win now players. They've drafted a lot from 2018 onwards.

They will have a big offseason. They can retool their roster and upgrade the deficient areas and become a top 3 team in the Atlantic if Bergervin is bold enough to do so
In Bergevin they trust. I still want to see him get extended.

This makes me sick the most. Montreal went all the way to the finals with a lot of support from young players, still have a very good prospect pool and have more picks this draft than a team normally does. Meanwhile Dubas pissed away all our draft picks for useless depth and got another first round exit out of it, when this team was just starting to restock the prospect cupboards. f***ing bullshit, this franchise is in such a horrible position right now.

It's not even just that the Habs can continue to stock up for the future, the trade currency they have with all of their picks and prospects make it extremely possible for them to make a non-crippling trade for an impact player to help them make the playoffs next year, and we all know what they're capable of when that time comes. If the Leafs trade any of our paltry amount of picks or prospects to try and address a need we're doing the exact same thing as what Leafs teams of the past did that has us where we are today.

the same team that should have not made the playoffs in 5 of the last 6 years. Credit to them. They got hot when it counted. But could easily be this years Dallas stars.

Don't forget about their potential lottery pick in 2022... :thumbu:

Unfortunately for the Habs, draft picks can't overcome their biggest obstacle: Price's health and consistency during the regular season.

Not sure if anyone caught Cooper post win interview on Sportsnet, telling the reporter that he doesn't care what anyone says, character trumps skill. Perhaps the Leafs and Dubas will understand that you can't skill your way to the cup if you don't wanna work and do what needs to be done.

Our roster and prospect pool are both better than Montreals and they draft/develop players horribly in their system.

They had a cinderella run but they finished 18th and 24th the last two seasons and will miss next year when regular divisions return.

They are much more likely to be the post-finals New Jersey Devils (missed the playoffs all but 1 year since 2012) than a team we should be worried about moving forward.

Nah Montreal has a deeper prospect pool then us pretty easily

We are still counting guys like Robertson, sandin, and lilijgren as prospects while they've graduated already Caufield, and Romanov

The Habs have a strong prospect pool but a lot of their high quality guys are LHDs or Wingers from the NCAA who they haven't signed yet.

They have Tuch, Struble, Jordan Harris, Guhle as prospects who are pretty close to our big 4 prospects and have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds this year (1st, 2 2nds, 2 3rd)

Habs have a worse roster than us and should not be competitive hopefully next year. They are set up well for the future with a big influx of talent potentially coming their way to support Suzuki, Romanov, CC, KK

Did he say anything about marner being such a good player again ? :sarcasm:

AM, Marner, JT and Willie should act and play like Kuch.

That’s why Kuch is back to back champ and one of the best players in the league.

Probably would be more productive if you tweet the players. They are the ones who really need to hear it. Telling Dubas does nothing except make him think we need more Foligno's, Thornton's, and Simmonds' in the lineup instead of guys who can actually play a decent game of hockey.

Jon Cooper also needs to realize that skill won him that Cup.

Yep...Tampa's star players have great skill and character...Point and Kucherov aren't afraid of any of the Habs big dmen...Kucherov is hitting guys despite not being 100%...Point was getting into it with Chiarot after the whistle, took his skate out with his stick, not even afraid of him...and this is the final round of the Stanley Cup...these guys are exhausted, battered and bruised...meanwhile, our stars like you know who, while being paid big dollars, can't get ready for games in round one and doesn't think anything needs changing after getting ousted.

Romanov, Guhle, Caufield, and maybe Poehling are the only ones who compete with our top 4 prospects. The rest are in line with a lot of guys we have in our top 10 or top 15.

If they develop their guys right, they will have a lot of solid NHLers. The thing is, they have a worse developmental record than we do. They have a lot of nice prospects picked up since 2017, but they had the same thing before 2017 too... And besides Romanov (who was drafted in 2018), the only guys outside of the 1st round they've drafted and developed since they picked up Gallagher in the 5th round of 2010 are Arturri Lehkonen and Jake Evans. Lehkonen is a solid but unspectacular bottom 6 winger and Evans is a fringe 4th liner like Brooks. Maybe Mete too but he was put on waivers so he couldn't be that great. Of course they also acquired Suzuki and Danault as well so that helps a bit.

Our record is not great but we've done better than that at least, and I have faith in our guys developing than theirs... Not to mention that none of these prospects compete with our young core and they are counting on all of them to build their new core.
