Jets now healthy and with Helly will be a tough out in round #2 for Leafs/Habs. Ehlers hits the road running with two goals last night. Waiting for the our beast Hymie to return after his month off. We need everybody firing on all cylinders if we are going to be successful. BTW the Bruins are looking real good today. When the heck is father time going to catch up to Bergeron ?? Quietly one of the best money players in the league.

McDavid made his own bed signing there for 8 years, totally jumped the gun. With that said he has enough power to force a trade if he really wants to go that route. He is part of the problem there, but their forward group outside of he and Draisaitl is atrocious.

How is that exactly?

You're not wrong. After watching Sid's entire career, I've noticed a small but what I think is an important difference between them: Crosby always makes his linemates better. McDavid succeeds in spite of them.
Sid has definitely elevated a lot of nobody type players, but he has struggles with some very good top 6 wingers. You need to grind and play a certain style with him or you won't generate much.

He is too easy to push out of games when the other team really clampdown, the leafs did it to him three games in a row this season.

Needs to adjust his game and get his hands dirty when he isn’t given the free space. MacKinnon, Crosby, Matthews for example are players who will go anywhere to score a goal.

Sure but he has virtually nobody other than Draisaitl to help him. Their D is average and Smith looked worse than Andersen in the 3rd period last night.

Edmonton basically banked their season on their mediocre d and a goalie who was playing way over his head most of the season. Not overly surprised... but I didn't think they'd roll over to let a 3-0 series lead happen. Edmonton needs big changes.

Winnipeg is beatable. Helly will be tough to go up against if that ends up being the 2nd round match for Leafs.

The goal to me obviously is the cup... but I expected realistically a 3rd round minimum this year. Still a lot to go but the third round if they get there... that's where you'll really know what this team is made of. To win the cup the last 2 teams/rounds they play are going to be very tough hockey.

If we make it to the second round and face the Jets. Jumbo is going to have a few words with Ehlers.

The Soilers are literally the modern day version of the 1989 Penguins when Lemieux had a 199 pt season. That team saved for the first line was pretty awful, but at least that team won a round in the playoffs.

If you get swept in the first round, but all of the golf courses are closed and there's no international travel, what exactly do you do?

Conrad and Dry gonna try to tackle Mass Effect: Remastered on Insanity?

I started watching the Oilers game was it was 4-1 and the Jets got the PP.

And boy was it a a great night after that!
Was a great game for Jets fans- too bad there were none in the building. The fourth game is always the hardest to win though. I originally thought that the Oilers were the only team capable of giving the Leafs a run for their money had they advanced with the Leafs to the divisional final. However, that opinion has changed with the Jets series playing out the way it has. It has clearly demonstrated that the Oilers have no depth at forward- the Jets current second, third and fourth lines are vastly superior to their equivalents on the Oilers. Oilers might be a wee bit better on defence but Hellebrucyk easily makes up for that short-coming. Should the Oilers make it to the finals against the Leafs (and one would not bet on that right now), Leafs would win in 5 or less.

The Oilers epic collapse couldn't have happened to a nicer fan base.....

Said NO ONE ever.

We are dreaming if this will humble them. Their two main targets are the Flames and the Leafs. They have a very unhealthy obsession with these two teams. But hey thanks for the free parking in your heads boys! Though it’s kinda empty in here.

When we blew a 4-1 lead we got eliminated and had the off season to recover (and stew).

How hard will it be to get back to it tonight. Should be interesting to see how it plays out

Sid was very good with Hossa during their 08 run. But yea certain type of wingers just won't work, like Phil for example.

With the way Oiler fans treat us (not all but some) I am not going to shed a tear after that collapse.

CBJ was fine in game 5 when they blew a 3 goal lead in game 4, so it is possible to come back with a strong game but we don't know if those guys in orange still have "it".

Bittersweet collapse by the Oilers last night.

If we advance, Winnipeg will be well rested now but on the other hand, the loss looks good on that Edmonton fan base.

Winnipeg doesn't scare me much, their forwards have looked pretty bad this series. If we play them it'll come down to Hellebuyck.

Regular season McDavid loves to turn it up every time he touches the puck. For a center, his first instinct is to jump up the ice and force the rush. It's like watching a Lamborghini on the open road Come playoff time, it's like trying to find a parking space at an Ikea parking lot during the holidays. I think the flashiness in his game covers up a lot of weaknesses in the details he's never really had to work on.

...
I mean they have Carter Verhaeghe and Mason Marchment on their first line. I don't care what their numbers are thats just not legit.

It doesn't legitimize the Leafs giving these 2 young players away for virtually nothing either.

Marchment is worth virtually nothing, even right now. We'd be fortunate to even receive an asset as good as Malgin out of him right now, and we received Malgin for him when he was an AHL 3rd liner. You can throw a rock in the UFA pool and likely hit 10 league-minimum guys who can bring what Marchment brings. He was also 25 and couldn't crack an NHL lineup when we dumped him. We got a 23 year old who had over 200 games of NHL experience already. We traded up in that department.

Verhaeghe was dumped by three different teams (and was dumped by our previous GM). Tampa even non-tendered him last year because he played like a AAAA offensive forward on a 4th line. Barkov brought a lot out of him.

I don't think a team that picked up multiple key role players for free (Mikheyev, Holl, etc.) should be complaining about an offensive explosion from a guy 5 years after we had him, when he really was nothing special. Pavel Gogolev is on an AHL contract with the Marlies right now and he has the same sort of strengths and weaknesses that Verhaeghe had at 20 years old.
