How does McDavid not have a goal in 3 games? Dude was a tear to get 100 points in this silly season and now 0 goals when his team needs him the most? Is he this easy to cancel out in the post season? Its gotta be a generational thing I guess.

It’s up to McDavid to be impactful in the playoffs though. It’s not like he’s entitled to playoff success. That’s not the leagues fault.

That's true. But there's only so much a star forward can do beyond his 20-25min a night. He cean't play D, or goalie or depth forward position a either.

I'dsay McDavid has also earned criticisms for his playoff performances. But with all that said, as a hockey fan I'd like to see him alongside some other talent and see what he's fully capable of. Similarly to Kessel with the Leafs. A lot of folks didn't come to appreciate what he could do until he got to the Pens ecr

The Oilers likely will be just as iffy next season and maybe even the season after that.

I’m a little late but

HAHAHAHAHAHAH Oilers

Who you you rather have in a playoff game? Matthews or McDavid? Scoring easy points in Calgary and vancouver is easy but that one way stat padding hockey doesn’t fly in the playoffs.

Of all of McDavids multi point playoff games, the Oilers have lost 80% of them. Is he really dominating?

Matthews dominated the Habs in every way last game.

Matthews > Mcdavid

When it matters

There I said it.

In some ways this is true but when is McDavid (along with Draisaitl) going to drag the Oilers up himself? Regular season scoring titles are a nice appetizer but can’t the main course.

McDavid was alone, behind his goal, with the puck un-attacked and gave the puck to Jets to tie it 4-4. I'm not not seeing regular season McD here . He's the best in O-zone but when it comes to goals against it's a bad team and pour McDavid somehow...

At the end of the day hockey is a team sport. Having one or two very good players won't guarantee you success, unlike the NBA which diminishes that league as far as I'm concerned. Mc David is the best offensive player no question but his defense needs work and his team needs work.

Man its really sucks JT is out. If and when we make it to round 2 we need all hands on deck because Jets top 6 is deep.

They are not deep at all. They only have 1 line. Scheifle is highly overrated and so is Stastny. Dubois is a 3rd liner

For me, I look at this current generation of young superstars and the benchmark is Nathan Mackinnon, and I hope Auston Matthews can follow on that trajectory. I just have a hard time valuing those McDavid regular season stats as much when he hasn’t shown the same game when it’s playoff time and it isn’t a shooting gallery on Vancouver and Ottawa.

Lest we forget Holland decided not to try and add to the team in the midst of McDavid’s prime. Maybe another defenseman prevents tonight from happening.

Does going all in make them a contender? I don't see it personally. They may win a round or make a better series, but it's a team filled with holes. Outside the best duo in hockey.

but at the same time. i think any leaf fan (even the extremely dumbo ones who ragged on him for complete crap) - would acknowledge that Phil was a PPG in the playoffs. whatever his faults were - (and he had a tonne) that was never my issue with him. Phil always came to play come playoff time.

The Big 3 here got crapped on during the Washington Series (Matthews specifically) and since then. Matthews has stepped it up in the playoffs. Marner is still doing his points thing, and Will is clicking on all cylinders.

we can blame the Oilers for not being super deep or super good in net - but McDavid needs to step it up. Throw hits, score some goals, put the team on your back or something - that way if/when they get eliminated they can all go "yeah mcdavid did all he could do and the team let HIM down" as of right now. he's a big part of the problem too.
