Jets are mediocre 5on5 team and that’s why I wanted leafs to face them instead of habs in the first round.
I wonder what the oilers are thinking..getting swept by a team who then got dominated and swept in the second round.
Jets were never going to finish 4th, Habs barely made the playoffs. Chances of Leafs playing the Jets in the first round died many months ago. Remember way back when we were all excited?

I would say they'll be lucky to win 1.

Not sure about that. Colorado has looked awful this series and Vegas has had issues scoring goals at times in the playoffs dating back to last year

Price + relentless forecheck could make it a series vs Colorado

Price + defensive zone play could make life tough for Vegas

They're heavy underdogs for sure, but not gonna write them off before the series even starts

Dubas fan club clinging to anything they think they can find.

The fact that Pasta is 2nd in playoff scoring with 7-7-14 points in 10 games, Marchand is 14th with 6-4-10 points and Bergeron right behind at 4-5-9 points.

In 10 playoff games this year the Perfection line has combined for 17 goals 16 assists for 33 points.

What a bunch of slugs those guys are and totally disappear come playoff time. :wg:

Colorado and Vegas are two tiers above Montreal and will dictate the style and pace of the series.

I don’t think you realize just how bad Montreal is. Lol.
This the 3rd conference final in the last 10 years or so where they’ve had a team that was very underwhelming on paper, it’ll be interesting how they fare next round. Obviously their fans are excited, but as a fan of the rival team all I care about is that they extent their cup less drought to 29 years (which is crazy bad for that organization, and it gets lost a bit in the shuffle because of how embarrassing the Leafs cup less drought is)

Montreal finished 18th overall in the final standings just above .500 with and negative goal differential and where the top 16 teams qualify.

The only reason they even qualified for the playoffs at all is because of the weak all CDN Div and they removed the 2 wild card teams this year and forced 4 from the same Div in..

NYR another eastern team had more points than Montreal and were out of the playoffs as Montreal wouldn't even qualify as a wild card team in a normal season.

True irony in play here of the team that shouldn't even be in the playoffs is now in the final 4 and last CDN team standing.

Habs had 6 starters out of the lineup for a good chunk of the 2nd half, including the heart if the team in Weber, Price and Gallagher. Also injuries to Petry, Byron and Toffoli. A stretch to say Jets were never going to finish 4th. They nearly did, despite Habs depleted roster.

Feels like the most we see "surprise" teams like MTL the more chance we start seeing a play-in to playoff type format.

Pretty sure WPG needed to go 0-12 or 0-11-1 over their final 12 for the Habs to finish ahead of them. They went 3-9 and finished 4 pts up with the tie breaker well in hand.

Feels like a stretch to say they were going to finish 4th.

Even if the Habs dominated them this series, it was almost impossible for the Habs to catch WPG even with the Jets imploding down the stretch.

Anyone else keeping score and noticing that there are 7 teams left in the hunt for the Stanley Cup and 3 of those teams Tampa Bay; Boston and Montreal are our former and soon to be present roommates of the Atlantic Div.

Those are the teams next year that Leafs will be competing with again and need to go through.

Leafs team building will need to take that into account as well as those pesky up and coming Florida Panthers.

Then what's the point of talent?

I think it's moreso that in most cases the talent has at least a little "heart". Sadly the Leafs talent is just missing something.

I agree, it sucks for the league and sucks for the fans.

Competition shouldn't scare the fan base of a team looking to overcome demons. We've faced great teams in playoffs and poor ones, but failed regardless.

This team will need to find a different gear either way next season. The earlier they do it, the better.

So Montreal is basically this year’s Dallas Stars then?

Colorado falling back to earth as Vegas is ramping up in a big way.

doesn't matter - make the playoffs and anything can happen - apparently

I think Florida is going to regress mightily. Don't trust their goalie carousel.
