While I will forget all if he ever agrees to force his way to the Leafs, but I can't help but roll my eyes at all that "McDavid will do anything to lead the team to win" stuff we heard this summer
A lot of the bullshit coming out of Oiler town lately sounds more like them desperately trying to convince themselves that McDavid isn't going to jump ship the second he can...

The New York Islanders play such a last generation brand of hockey. As a team they shoot, pass and stick handle like they’re all using wood sticks. Not a lot of excess skill on that team.

Friedman was saying on 32 Thoughts today, when the Leafs blocked Dubas from joining the Avalanche as GM, Mike Babcock went to management (assume Shanahan) and said they would need to promote Dubas to GM, having blocked his promotion to another team. What a watershed franchise changing moment that turned out to be and kind of ironic how it worked out for all parties.

Think the Av’s should have found a better option than Johanson.
Press did well to ditch him and Duchene.

Bob said Kris started coaching full time shortly after graduating from the University of Alberta, where he played with the hockey team for five seasons. It was during that stint as a player that he got interested in coaching.

“When he was at the U of A, his coach was Rob Daum. He was really interested in Rob’s coaching style and he really got the bug in those five years playing under Daum,” Bob explained.

“Once his university career was done, he played a year of semi-pro, but coaching was his biggest interest. He got the assistant job in Prince Albert and then just kept moving on from there. He was drawn to coaching right off the bat after his hockey career was over.”

Before coaching, Kris played AAA hockey for the Battlefords Stars before moving to major junior to play for the Red Deer Rebels, Edmonton Ice, Lethbridge Hurricanes and Kootenay Ice in the WHL.

His coaching career has seen him win a championship in the WHL with the Kootenay Ice in 2010-11 and an OHL championship in 2016-17 with the Erie Otters.

His junior success led him to landing an assistant coaches role with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2017-19, before he took over as the head coach of the New York Rangers’ AHL affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack in 2019.

He was able to fill in as a head coach in the NHL for several games during the COVID-19 pandemic with the New York Rangers. During his first fill-in game, the Rangers won 9-0 over the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden.

Bob explained what Oilers fans and players can expect from his son as their next head coach.

“When he was in Erie and the AHL, he liked to play an offensive game but always stressed defence. His biggest plus in coaching is he’s a player’s coach,” Bob stated.

“He really treats his players well, and if they have a problem his door is always open. Anybody I’ve talked to or who has played for him has never had a bad thing to say about him. He is demanding, but he doesn’t go overboard and lets the players play his game. He’s a coach that likes both ends of the ice.”

"I want to win a Cup. So I'm signing with a team that has been rebuilding for the past decade without once being close to a playoff spot."

At this point in his career, all Gallagher is is a wasted roster spot. Unless you need someone who specializes in taking cheap wacks at the opposing goalie.
Your right, at this point in his career he’s a shell of his former self, but even a washed up Gallagher has more heart than most of the Leafs roster. Sad, but true……..

Just realized how short of tenure Woodcroft had with Edmonton… he took over for Tippett two years ago, improving the team to. Conference final run.

And last year a 50-win season before a second round exit.

Seems like he was the sacrificial lamb for Holland’s inability to surround their core with better depth, defense, and goaltending.

I think Woodcroft got the short end of the stick on this one. They've had a really poor start, but I guess better now at the start of the year than later. I do think they will eventually turn it around and be one of the better teams, and it would have happened under Woodcroft as well.

But with high expectations and patience wearing thin, the firing was in line with the screams for his removal.

It's so mindboggling to me that the Oilers would go through the lengths of bringing on McDavid's agent and junior coach to "keep the player happy"... all the while turning it into such a conflict of interest, inmates running the asylum vibe around the organization and then putting McDavid into an even weirder light. Talk about doing creepy stuff that ends up backfiring.

Edmonton is the hotel from Shining, it was just a matter of time

My favorite Gallagher memory is when he took a run at Reimer during a blowout game and Mike Kostka of all people dropped the mitts and sent Gally into next week

Honestly if they do move on from Keefe later this offseason I wouldn't hate it if he was considered as a future Leafs coach

It sure would be nice if we could somehow swindle Chevy and get our hands on Lowry. But they made him captain for a reason.
If anyone is ever wondering what I mean when I refer to a player as “solid” just watch him.

Tampa is going to have some decisions to make. If they want to be ruthless, they should be moving on this season from Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman and Vasi (appreciating that you can't trade all of them in a single season). At the very least, Stamkos should be traded to try to restock the draft pool.
