If Leafs signed him for next year, and he lost in the the Stanley Cup Finals 5 out of 6 years.... is that a good thing?
Perry is like Taylor Hall. If you want to play in the SCF, sign Perry, if you want to draft 1st overall, sign Hall, lol

Looking at all the finalists since the lockout and the answer is obvious.

*Cup winner

If you do the same for defense it's a very, very, very, similar list of teams with Norris caliber defensemen.

So hard to believe Dubas couldn't see this for himself the entire time he was here.
Binnington was a rookie and has been pretty mid ever since. Bob wasn't even the starter going into last years playoffs..

Vasi is a horse.

The issue is twofold. There are not a lot of great goalies, and they are really quite voodoo. Up and sown like relievers in baseball.

No one had Hill on their bingo card winning the Cup last year.

Dubas tried quite a few goalies. They all failef

They are in the freaking finals and some of these fans are actually thinking or caring about the things we lunatics have to say?

Rent free.

"At press time, trade Marner."

My sides 🤣

Eh, there's a nugget of truth to that. Atlantic is a tougher division than the Pacific by a longshot. However, lest we forget when the Leafs faced "easy" opponents in Columbus and Montreal the stars still failed to score. Our woes are more than just being in a tough division.
that's an atlantic division team too isnt it? they whalloped Winnipeg who swept the oilers in the same year...

Except many of the cup winners have been ok

Hill. Murray x2, Binnington. Kuemper. Have been 5 of the last 7 right?

They aren’t anything special.
Holtby is debatable. I can hear arguments he is Elite. But it’s vasi/holtby and junk from
2016-2023
dont forget penguins won 2 with Hainsey on their top pair.

Crawford doesn't scream elite with a 918 career sv% across 500gp? Murray wins two cups, that's not luck and then he ran into injury problems. Osgood played 750 games with a .650win% has 3 cups and another final appearance. Bobrovsky is undeniably elite (im counting this year its over). And Fleury was an undeniable top 5 goalie for a lot of his career.
Unless you only consider the top 3 goalies in the league elite, I'm not sure how all those guys aren't elite.
An elite goalie is one who consistently provides high-end goaltending impact.
It is not a goalie with an inflated and unrepresentative save percentage playing behind a defensively-elite dynasty.
It is not a goalie that wins cups or has a good winning percentage due to other areas of the team they are on.
It is not a goalie who is mediocre or below average over their career, and flip flops between good and bad seasons.
You're naming cup-winning goalies that ranged from below average to good, not elite.

McDavid has 3 points in the series and no other Oiler has more than 1.

McDavid leads all forwards on both teams for Shots on goal, high danger chances for and individual expected goals. Hyman leads for total scoring chances as McDavid just keeps feeding him.

Team save%: .955-.868 Cats (updated to reflect the actual goalies save%)

Bob is stealing the show this series.
Didn't leaf fans say these things last season when Bob put up a .978 svpct and got told otherwise. Naw these are excuses. Until he scores he has no goals in this series regardless of "Chances". This was a non stop talking point against florida last year in the first three games that the big guns weren't scoring goals against Florida.

Then Vegas just beat them in the Finals.
I guess players can beat Bob with an insane save %.

Not saying goalie is not important but maybe top guys just need to be top guys. Bob and Barkov are the top guys on the Panthers this year and they are playing much better than McD and Drai, the top guys on Oilers.

Technically they were a "North Division" team that season. Montreal was by far the worst team to qualify for the playoffs and wouldn't have made it in a normal year. That they fluked out a run when we should've finished them off in Round 1 doesn't change that.

and yet the godly oilers were swept by the jets team who were runover ran over by mtl while being carried by Patrick Roys resurrected spirit

Yeah how on earth did the Panthers beat the Rangers when Shesterkin was standing on his head for most of the series?!?

These goalie excuses for the Leafs are old. If you're truly a cup contender, you wouldn't get "goalie'd" every year.

Exactly, some here thinks Oilers were lucky to play LA, Nucks with a 3rd stringers.... but our boys will lose to LA and get goalied by Silvos of Nucks.

If Leafs run it back and re-sign Marner, we might be able to predict every year for the next decade or so which goalie will goalie the Leafs..."Git Gud or Git Goalied" should be a sign in the Leafs' dressing room...:sarcasm:

“So in 2022 when they lost in 7 games to one Stanley Cup finalist, and we lost in 4 to the other, the fact that they lost in the first round and we lost in the third wasn’t because our team has grit and determination and they are a bunch of primadonnas, but because of the way the league forces teams to play against divisional opponents in the playoffs first? Well f*** me,” said Wilder.

Yeah. Sounds about right.

On the other hand, we can also make a lot of money betting the winner in a Leafs playoffs series.
So it might not be a bad thing, lol.

You can see it with your eyes in both series Bob is an animal. After making huge saves all game, even when the Oilers got back into the game with a pure fluke and unstoppable tip, Bob shut the door with the biggest save of the game to seal the win. He also single handedly won game 1. After stinking it up last year and losing his starting job to Lyon, it really lit a fire under him and he's been a throwback to old 2x Vezina Bob since them much of the time.

Goaltending has been the difference in the series really and it's not like Skinner has stunk the joint up despite his stats. Skinner has just not been on the crazy level of Bobrovsky who is forcing the Oilers to take risks and getting exposed at the back hanging Skinner out to dry on half the goals IMO He may close it out with a .950+ against a prime McDrai team. It's silly to try and take that away from him.

We got a flash of playoff goaltending from Woll this year but this team has lacked a quality playoff keeper since Belfour really.

As the Edmonton Soilers spill their hearts into the gulf like the deep water horizon. Don Cherry is probably saying something along the lines of getting traffic in front of Bob. No dirty goal on Bob = very few goals on Bob

Said it before and I'll say it again. You're not going to win a cup with Stuart Skinner and having nurse make 9.5 and being paired with ceci. It doesn't matter if you have mcdavid and drais, it will eventually catch up to you. They'll have one more kick at the can next season but will be a mess after that. Bouchard will go from making under 4m to probably at least 10. And drais will go from under 9 to 12.5+.

Evan Rodrigues is out scoring Edmonton’s star players. Whenever that happens you’re going to need a pretty damn deep bench to cover for that level of star player malfunction.
It’s quite shocking to see how Leafy those Edmonton guns have been. McDavid looks so empty calorie flash and Draisaitl was just getting chances and missing on everything. It’s unbelievable.
