The Connor Brown contract thing is spicy. He does not look like the same guy, shying away from contract. Honestly the cold calculating business move would be the waive him and keep him in the AHL all year to not trigger the games played clause, but McDavid and the NHLPA would freak out.

“I’m doing what you (media folks) have wanted me to do for about 3 years. I’m spending. Trying to win now,” said Ken Holland, only half-joking. “We’re trying to win. We’re adding a top forward at $775,000.”

McDavid and Draisatl are all that stop the Oilers from being a truly awful team.

Those two are still capable of dragging them through a few rounds of the playoffs, though. If they aren't absolutely clicking that team is in trouble. Even last year, IIRC, they were playoff bubble until fairly far into the season when McDrai hit the afterburners and pulled them in.

Feels like the Evander Kane bonus has worn off and he’s become a distraction again.

Interesting to see DeBrincat lighting it up for Detroit. Makes you think a DeBrincat Bedard duo would have been worth building with, albeit dumping DeBrincat is what allowed Chicago to tank so effectively. Kind like the Leafs dumping Kessel during the offseason that led to the Matthews tank.

Probably a good thing the Devils don’t have stellar goaltending. They’re scary enough already.

I think you just hope a bigger and tougher team will beat up on them somewhere along the way and their goalie situation takes them out of contention.

It's going to be a big challenge for Dubas to retool the Penguins if they don't get better. Crosby, Malkin and Letang are not 21-22 year old stars anymore. They have very little prospects either... probably the worst prospect pool in the league. Yager is looking great in the WHL though. Pickering seems fine as well.
