Maybe a NTC should have a clause where it can’t be waived, perhaps that would make it less appealing to the player? Personally I think they handcuff the team’s abilities to conduct business and should be removed from the collective agreement………..
I don't follow. If they don't want the player to waive it they won't ask him to.

My point was having the ability to move to another team works both ways, a player might not want to stay with a team for the term of his contract for whatever reason. I worked for Hydro for 30 years and believe me if I had to stay in any one department wouldn’t have worked out well for me, the freedom of moving to another department worked out well for me both mentally and professionally. Not sure how to explain it better, or perhaps I don’t know what I’m talking about………

I think more people will be looking for the exit when they realize the party’s over.
That’s my point if you sign a NTC/NMC you shouldn’t be able to abandon the team you signed with……..

Guentzel's a ufa so either they move him now or he walks for nothing

Players can demand a trade, happens every year.

I wouldn't say it was a "bad" trade as they gave up basically nothing, but it was a bad contract to take on in their current situation.
The players are fluff, but a 1st round pick this year (don't think it is lottery protected), a 2nd next year and valuable cap space is a steep price for a team whose core is vastly aged in NHL terms and has a poor prospect pool. It's a recipe to set the team back further than it needs to be.

i wouldn't call potentially giving up a top 10 pick nothing

It's top 10 protected for the upcoming draft.

Demand a trade wouldn’t be allowed under the scenario I was describing, for either player or team……..
Can't see why anyone would want that, probably why it's never been part of the CBA.

Roger that, but we started with how NTC/NMC handcuff the teams, I’m sure the teams would be happy to get rid of movement clauses, and players might not want said clauses because if binding they’d (clauses) restrict the players movement. At least that’s what I was trying to say, apparently not very well, the NHLPA isn’t really a union anyways so having binding rule is probably a foreign concept……..

Must have bet on hockey, what a dumbass.
According to Friedman he didn't bet on NHL games. Not sure what it would be besides that, maybe lower level (minors, junior), or something NHL related but not an actual game result, like who would win an award or something.

Or if you want to put your conspiracy theory hat on, Ottawa's new owner has some pull and just got Bettman to force an unsigned player to take his QO..
