He didn’t even bet on NHL games apparently.

I really don’t care about the senators or pinto at all, but this league really is a joke. They just have absolutely no clue.
How does he get suspended for betting on other sports? It’s not like he has any insider information for NFL games or whatever

Vague as all hell.

I don’t believe he got that many games for sports betting if it wasn’t NHL games. Stinks of Bettman sweeping something big under the rug

I am so incredibly jealous of Devils fans.

Hughes at 8x8, two top 5 D prospects coming soon. Great situation over there. Completely different build than ours, where we never had a top D prospect (I guess Mo, long time ago) and never had a single "good value" star contract.

The suspension is a PR suspension. It's not actually 41 games, because they apply it retroactively.

Pinto might have missed 41 games anyway, so they threw a big number at him to scare players in the future.

It's cause their players suck when they signed a long term contract. The same thing with MacKinnon, he was a 60 point player when he signed.

Our players had to hit 90+ points before their ELC was over. Dubas should have signed them before their third contracts - he screwed our cap. Marner allegedly asked for 9M X 8 and he said no the summer prior... before giving him 10.9 X 6.

It might be a bit of a technicality, but it's possible he bet on other things such as draft picks, trades, signings, etc. It's not on games, but other stuff NHL related. But they likely have a very strict rule to not be involved in any pro sports gambling... which is very weird since the league had a bunch of sports gambling sponsors over the last couple years.

I had also wondered if he was feeding inside information to other people too....

lol rumour floating around that Dorion is fired and they're losing a 1st round pick for the Dadonov debacle from 2years ago.

This is amazing

They've been a terribly run team forever. Some nice individual pieces but I'm amazed at how often Dorion is given a free pass by fans

Certainly possible. Seravalli's tweet referred to Pinto's "connection to a third-party or proxy bettor." Either he had someone placing a bet for him, perhaps, or he was sharing information with someone else as you opine.

I would think that if he were sharing information about the Senators specifically, that a third-party could use in a betting scenario (say, an injury issue; they did after all have Norris out), then that would seem like a particularly damning breach of trust. All speculation, of course.

The Karlsson trade and 2020 draft completely saved his ass. Apart from those 2 moves, its a big mess and a lot of losses.

He's definitely made a few good moves, but I always felt the claim that it was ALWAYS "ownership" making him do the bad ones to be fairly suspect

According to this ESPN article regarding Evander Kane players are allowed to gamble on other sports.

According to the NHLPA, players are allowed to wager on any sports outside of hockey.

A one-time teammate of Kane was surprised to read the accusations, telling ESPN that while Kane's wagering on football and basketball were well known.

Kane isn't the first NHL player to ring up significant gambling losses. The legendary Jaromir Jagr owed more than $500,000 to an Internet gambling site back in 2003. Thomas Vanek owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to a bookmaker for betting on football and basketball games -- although not the $10 million that the bookie's lawyers claimed in court.

Neither player was punished by the NHL because they didn't cross the uncrossable line: betting on hockey.

Why even bet? They make millions. Makes no sense to me.

tbh, it sucks that we didn't suck for 1 more season after drafting Matthews. Would've had a chance at Makar or Heiskanen.

I don't Understand the hype with Carolina...they are supposed to be so good but that D and even the coach seem overrated to me

Still remembered how a few years some here thought Dorion is a great GM if it wasn't for ownerships.

Should had traded away players instead of trading for Boyle that TDL. Imagine we got Makar that year.
