Art Ross race should be epic down the stretch.

Points per game:

Kucherov - 1.67
McDavid - 1.67
MacKinnon - 1.60

Kucherov is 10 points up on McDavid and MacKinnon is 8 points up on him.

McDavid has 5 team games in hand though as both Tampa and Colorado have played 58 games. Edmonton has played 53.

What a weird season it's been. Doesn't feel like there's a clear favourite and there's basically no separation between the top 10 teams in the league. Many of the teams that started red hot like Winnipeg, Boston and Vancouver are also starting to hit some bumps and are slowing down, while teams like Toronto, Edmonton, LA that were previously underperforming are rising up the standings again. Will be a very interesting finish to say the least

Canucks are going to crash and burn next season. Everything and I mean everything went right for them the first 50 odd games.

There is no chance in the world that team is a top ~5 defensive team in a high scoring league. They are going to crash and with 25 or so games to go, wouldn't shock me to see them end up 3rd in their division.

They've padded up a nice lead to be any lower than that. Can we pay the league and go back to the West? It's such a soft conference.

Yeah. Given all the criticism and negativity that’s been said and written about us this year (not saying some hasn’t been warranted) it’s kinda crazy when you look at the league standings and realize if we were to win our 2 games in hand, we’d be potentially only 4 points out of 1st in the NHL

Tampa Bay is terrible…
If TB makes the playoffs, they have all the ingredients and more to make a run like the Habs did.

If Pittsburgh can go on a run, they may be the only team that can catch Tampa given the games in hand they have.
Would be funny to see Pens get on a run and just felt short. Bc I can see Dubas trading whatever left with Pens to make the run.

Well the 6 games winning streak certainly helps.
We really were not playing well, at one point we only had the same number of regulation wins than the bottom 3 teams. Can’t hold a lead.
But the guys are finally playing like a team, once again it shows it is a long season and nothing matters till playoffs.

If they can’t resign Petey, they will crash hard. The rumor today is that Nucks offered 96mil for Petey in the summer and he refused bc he wants to sign with a winning team. Yet, Petey still not sign and JR even said a month ago that he will trade Petey(off season) if he doesn’t want to sign with the Nucks.

Marner for Pettersson?

Fun things from around the league.

To Tampa Bay
F Tanner Jeannot

To Nashville
D Cal Foote
2025 1st RD pick (Top 10 Protected)
2024 2nd RD pick
2023 3rd RD pick
2023 4th RD pick
2023 5th RD pick

Jeannot has been injured, played 42 games this year, has a grand total of 12 points, and is a -11. Great trade.

Speaking of great trades;

The New Jersey Devils acquired Timo Meier, Scott Harrington, Timur Ibragimov, Santeri Hatakka, Zachary Emond, and 2024 5th Round Pick from the San Jose Sharks for Andreas Johnsson, Shakir Mukhamadullin, Fabian Zetterlund, Nikita Okhotyuk, 2023 conditional 1st round pick, conditional 2024 2nd round pick and 2024 7th Round Pick

Meier is one of your Masters tournament golf leaders so far this year, heading into the clubhouse. 8 year, $8.8 million contract, he's put up 10 goals and 12 assists, and is a -25. Yes, Meier at $8.8 million, is being out pointed by Domi this year...

----------------------

Speaking of albatross contracts, and Domi... man, has Josh Anderson not worked out at all for Montreal. Three more years at $5.5 million, 7 goals, 15 points, and a -19. You just hate to see it.... hah!

-----------------------

Another golf star this year... Stamkos, with a wonderful -24. On ice for 4.3 GA/60... yikes. Pending UFA.... We were in on him, the year before Tavares, but it seems his game has regressed even more than Tavares.

----------------------

Another regrettable trade... PLD... 26 points in 55 games, -16 Maybe he just needs one more change of scenery!!!

There's easily 3+ teams that can catch Tampa.
NYI, Wash, Pitt, Jersey etc.
It's doubtful to be Washington or New York. They're bad teams that are already flattered by their record.
It's probably going to be Detroit, Philly, Tampa, Pittsburgh, and New Jersey fighting for 3 spots.

Tampa and Philly probably have the best chance, as they are already in and don't have abnormalities in their underlying metrics. Tampa has also done with this without usual Vasilevsky, and he's the goalie most likely to rebound. New Jersey is the most out of it right now, and probably struggles unless they get Hamilton back early or find a goalie. Detroit is likely to drop (as their 5v5 conversion drops), and Pittsburgh is likely to rise (as their PP conversion improves), but Detroit has an easier strength of schedule left, and is currently ahead, while Pittsburgh just lost one of their best scorers. It'll be interesting to watch.

I'm just glad we created some separation from that group of teams.

I was about to complain about how every important game is tied late in the 3rd, and then Aho to the rescue. Canes win

Caps just took the lead as well thanks to Leaf Legend Sandin
That was a pretty good game for February.

Only another couple of weeks teams before teams switch to playoff mode.

I don't think we will see any kind of remarkable rebound from Vasi.

He rebounded from a mediocre regular season in 2019-2020 to be dominant and win a cup in the playoffs that year, and then was the best goalie in the world - regular season and playoffs - for years. It's too early for me to write him off permanently, and none of the other teams in the mix have a goalie option that is more likely to go on a run.
