There is a such a bizarre hate on here for a former GM. I can't imagine any other fanbase has ever felt this way about a former manager. Meanwhile, 90% of the team they are actively fawning over most nights are the product of that same manager.Yeah, I'm not sure why people are acting like 3 years is an issue. He's not even their longest signed or oldest signed core defenseman.
If Pittsburgh shifts to a rebuild over the next couple years, you could just retain on him and get back more than you paid.

Dubas put together the bulk of this team, didn't he? Other than Domi, Bertuzzi, Benoit, Reaves and jones, at least two of whom draw constant scorn from people here, what else has treliving done?Only if you think Matthews/team is Dubas product.
It's funny, he had nothing to do with obtaining our core, just their past and current overpayments, yet he gets credit because the fan base is fawning over Matthews scoring 70 goals?
yeah, no wonder this misguided logic was rewarded by instant Dekes like .
But Matthews, Marner, Nylander nor Rielly are any of Dubas's guys either. Those were Lou and Burke. But surely no one is going to fawn over them for being the ones who left such remarkable pieces for this franchise.Dubas put together the bulk of this team, didn't he? I should add, I don't care about either of them. Getting worked up about a manager seems like a lot of effort.
Bizarre is certainly one word for it. Interestingly, 90% is exactly the percentage of team goals this year that have been scored by inherited players. There is a such a bizarre hate on here for a former GM. It's actually a mixture of Burke, Nonis, Dubas/Hunter, and Lou that brought them in. And then one of those guys made sure we kept them all.But Matthews, Marner, Nylander nor Rielly are any of Dubas's guys either. Those were Lou and Burke.

MurrayWho are the guys Dubas actually acquired?
Tavares, Jarnkrok, Knies, Robertson, Kampf, Holmberg
Brodie, McCabe, Giordano
Samsonov
Anyone else?
This is the acquiring and signing GM of every player that's played a game for the Leafs this year:Who are the guys Dubas actually acquired?
Dubas is clearly rattled.
Not really, he had nothing do with our top players, apart from JT. Dude inherited a DREAM gig here. You think the hatred is weird, what about the cult around the guy here, never seen anything more bizarre in my life. Decent GM, over rated though, took forever to realize hockey isn't a excel spreadsheet.Dubas put together the bulk of this team, didn't he? How hard is it to re-sign guys who want to be career Leafs and @ those cap hits. I'd trust anyone from this board even the worst poster in the world, to be able to keep the amigos.Bizarre is certainly one word for it. Interestingly, 90% is exactly the percentage of team goals this year that have been scored by inherited players.

...Which actually wouldn't be as notable in any other market, but apparently it's a contentious thing here...

Rifai was signed to the Marlies last year, so not a Treliving, but a Dubas guy.
Rifai was signed to a one-year AHL contract in 2022 after three seasons at Harvard University. Given the organization’s connections to Harvard — 2019 draft pick Nick Abruzzese spent two seasons there and the organization frequently sent development staff and scouts to watch Harvard games — the Leafs became fans of Rifai. Former GM Kyle Dubas in particular was enamoured by him and pushed to sign him.If a guy was brought in by the AHL GM, then that’s who acquired him, right?

I was just answering the question you asked. But since you mention it, almost every important player on this year's roster was acquired by and/or signed by Dubas, despite Dubas not being in charge of this year's roster.… you think that’s a defence? Dubas was the GM for 5 years, and we can count on one hand the number of important players he brought into the current roster.
You'd think so, but that's somehow become contentious in this market. Not to mention they're obvious re-signs. No thought needed.
Ah, didn't notice that. Good catch.Rifai was signed to the Marlies last year, so not a Treliving, but a Dubas guy.
I mean, your boss says... you sign this guy... you sign this guy... call it whatever makes you happy. He pushed to sign him… which means he didn’t do the signing?
It doesn’t really matter anyway. Rifai is a nothing player.
Believe me, I think fawning over Dubas is equally bizarre, especially from media members. I frankly don't understand any of the praise or hate. He is no different than any other GM - some good moves, some not good moves. Not really, he had nothing do with our top players, apart from JT. Dude inherited a DREAM gig here. You think the hatred is weird, what about the cult around the guy here, never seen anything more bizarre in my life. You acquire a large property in an expensive downtown city and you raise capital from investors to build 2 large upscale condo buildings. You hire the developer but instead of completing the 2 condo towers, the developer completes poorly built and designed apartments which can't be used for anything other than lower income rentals.Believe me, I think fawning over Dubas is equally bizarre, especially from media members. I frankly don't understand any of the praise or hate. He is no different than any other GM - some good moves, some not good moves.
I really thought it was just a list.… you think that’s a defence? Dubas was the GM for 5 years, and we can count on one hand the number of important players he brought into the current roster.
The only players that Dubas signed but didn't acquire are Matthews, Nylander, Rielly, Liljegren, and Woll, and none of them were overpaid.Someone else acquires them, then Dubas overpays them.
