You acquire a large property in an expensive downtown city and you raise capital from investors to build 2 large upscale condo buildings. You hire the developer but instead of completing the 2 condo towers, the developer completes poorly built and designed apartments which can't be used for anything other than lower income rentals.

Once completed, the general talking points from people who don't understand real estate or investing is that the developer did a good job (I mean......the buildings are standing....what's the problem?). Is there any wonder why anyone associated with the development project would be irritated to hear that the developer did a "good job"?
This would make sense if Dubas had poor regular season teams. But he didn't. Treliving's team is literally doing exactly what Dubas' teams did, right down to virtually the same points per game percentage as prior years. Obviously, the playoff results will be the arbiter of success, but I would suggest that the Leafs doing well in the playoffs this year will be the result of the maturation of its star players rather than the additions of Domi, Bertuzzi and Reaves...

Not really, he had nothing do with our top players, apart from JT. Dude inherited a DREAM gig here. You think the hatred is weird, what about the cult around the guy here, never seen anything more bizarre in my life. Decent GM, over rated though, took forever to realize hockey isn't a excel spreadsheet.
Pittsburgh we be his last stop in the NHL, he’ll end up in the AHL, or one of the junior leagues…….

Anyone reasonable can admit we never need Dubas to have this core.

Mediocrity has met penguins. Lost a 1st rounder just to fire sale

Our team is amazing and Dubas botched year 1 in Pittsburgh and is about to enter a long rebuild. By the time Pens are rivals with Leafs again, 3 amigos will probably be nearing retirement or retired.

Time to end the Dubas stuff on this board. He is entering indifference. It doesn't matter if he sucks, mediocre, average or a good gm.

I don’t know about that. I’m not super active as a poster but an often lurker. Seems like if there is any cult, it’s anyone espousing to this day about there being any such cult. It’s just such a lazy cop out. If you don’t want to have the conversation you’ve probably had a hundred times already, that’s fair. But just say so. All this ‘cult’ talk though is just silly.

Was a good gig to walk into here, that’s for sure. I think 99% of anyone in his shoes would have done generally the same by sticking with this core. That’s my opinion. Not to beat a dead horse but if the cap kept increasing by ~4 million a year instead of being stagnant during covid years, the word ‘overpay’ would be non existent around here.

I think he had a decent plan but got dealt a bad hand and had trouble executing it. And the players didn’t get the results he or we had imagined. He is no longer here as a result. I won’t fault him for believing in our core of young forwards though.

Seems like Treliving so far has the same mandate, stick with the core. We shall see what he does with Marner. We could all guess and I think most of us would have the same answer( same as the other 2).

If it plays out like that and we have some more playoff success. What’s the conversation like then?
Is it somewhat vindication for Dubas by sticking with this core?
Is it credit for Treliving for finally finding the right mix outside the core?
For having the cap available to make significant moves outside the core?

And before you go labeling me as another one of your cultist. I know that the clock run out on Dubas. It was time( shanahan handled that time about as poorly as possible, but that’s a different conversation).
But overall. Not a bad effort, it couldn’t get the job done. Not guna act like it was the darkest period in leafs history.

Just wait until they pick top 10 in this years draft which makes next years pick to the sharks unprotected. Their fan base will be kakking themselves all season long.

While not untrue, it seems like if they are going to fire sale and wanted to recoup a first from Karlsson it may not be that hard. They’d have to retain but they could if they are throwing in the towel.

The team can go as far as our top guys. That hold true for any teams.
Now maybe guys like Domi, Bert, Benoit, Reaves and even Gregor allows the OGs to mature and be more comfortable playing their own games.

Pens fans already feeling the Dubas pain.

They haven't seen anything yet.

Those poor bastards. Lol.

How many teams will he chop in half before he's done? He moves pretty quickly.

Currently on track to lose a top 10 pick next year to start their rebuild - they might even choose this year if they sell off before next season.

Also just noticing Hawks could add Celebrini.

Interesting

Gary is frothing at the mouth to move Winnipeg South. And yet the yotes are playing in a college arena bleeding money for years. It’s a joke. Winnipeg is a city where a lot of folks can’t afford tickets as they have other priorities. Toronto and Montreal has higher earners and big corporations. It is what it is until the economy turns around which will be awhile.

Florida's such a bunch of 'roid ragers, hope they're all spent before the playoffs even start.
