It's kind of wild the Devils are currently out of the playoffs. Their goaltender woes are really bad uh? They've also had some big injuries as well... but their depth seemed very good.
They also took a giant step back defensively, from 3rd best in the league to 21st. They lost Graves and Severson in the offseason, and Hamilton got injured early in the year. They're relying on two 20 year olds to play significant minutes in their top-4.

Nice to see Detroit sprinkle a little salt on the wounds of the delusional Sens fans that think they still have any chance at the post season.

They continue to do their best to help the Leafs. 4-0 since Leafs legend Ridley Greig scored his ENG, and now they go and beat Tampa in regulation.

Need the sweet spot, between missing playoffs and not getting great pick.:naughty:

I don't even think about them and am more concerned with us, only discussed due to recency bias.

Pretty much must win for Pit tonight against the Islanders.

Outside of Guentzel, who can they actually sell?

And Meier has been a bust this season with that new big extension kicking in

Maybe Reilly Smith and Guentzel is out for 4 weeks with a rumoured broken pinky.
I wonder if teams would still pay for him? Wouldn't have him back to mid March, but is still one of the best goal scores availabke.

I would kick tires on Tarasenko if looking for scoring I guess

McDavid is 11 points behind Kucherov in the Art Ross race with 5 games in hand.

Should come right down to the wire.

On January 24 he was 22 points behind MacKinnon for the AR.

Are those 5 games Oilers games or just he missed games due to injury?

I think he is too slow to play with the Devils. Lol
Or just the fact that SJ centered their offence around him and now he needs to play within the Devils system.

McD probably will catch up as he still have not gone SuperNova yet.
He's been supernova for some time now

first 16 games: 6 goals, 10 assists, 16 points
last 34 games: 15 goals, 52 assists, 67 points

He's been 2 PPG for a while which is insane to think about

He's their Denis Malgin, Nic Petan.
He's probably going to be an inconsequential depth player, but I doubt he's going to get brought up 5 years later as much as those inconsequential depth players.
Every team in the league has guys like this.

I'm sure there's a Penguins fan somewhere who's going to go to the matt for him.

They usually get forgotten the next day. Filler fringe depth that's not really that notable.
Phillips seems like a decent one of those to take a chance on though. Mid 20s. Multiple years over PPG in the AHL. Hard worker.

Matt Phillips actually came with a little controversy. Think Darryl Sutter refused to play him in Calgary and there was a lot of anxiety they may have let something special slip. Sort of a quasi Nick Robertson situation.
