It's a pretty grim position for Canada. Skinner? Jarry? Hill? Those are your options. If they let the Russians play in the Olympics, Shesterkin and Sorokin? Yikes.
Looking around at the other countries, they're pretty loaded as well:

U.S.A. -- Hellebuyck, Oettinger, Demko, Swayman :amazed:
Sweden -- Ullmark, Gustavsson, Markstrom, Wallstedt*
Finland -- Saros alone is better than any Canadian goalie

Gone are the days of an Olympic team with Brodeur, Belfour and Joseph. Not to mention Roy who preceded them. Canada has a huge goalie problem, and it's remarkable to think just how much the position has gone downhill within a couple of decades from when it was seen as a goaltending factory.

Can you imagine our cupcakes playing against that D in a playoff series?
Size and speed/quickness are a benefit. Add coaching and it makes all the difference in the world.

I'd like more size in our group... but the seven D who played for Colorado the year before, when they won the cup averaged 201lbs, 6'1".... and those cupcakes won the cup.

I don't think the Dillon hit is suspendable, the guy drove into him.
I didn’t think it was a malicious hit, but the head was the first point of contact, and it’s not his first time so I think he’ll get pinched for a couple of games………

People get obsessed with copying the makeup of the most recent winner. The reality is that there is no set formula for winning a championship. It's a random combination of skill and a million small events occurring in your favour.

It’s a grind, being a heavy team is definitely a advantage, it’s better to be the hammer than the nail……..

If you watched Colorado dismantle Tampa, you would not call them cupcakes. Kadri would tell you to kiss his ass if you called him a cupcake.

I do not recall who said it, but they thought no way can Marner handle the grind of 4 playoff series. Maybe we just play him in the first 4 games of each series and sit him the rest of the series.

Of course. I'm just saying it doesn't require having 6 defensemen of a certain height or weight. Playing hard is a mentality, not a physical ability.

In all seriousness, if your a smaller guy your going to pay the price twice as much, Mitch is a lot of things, but Doug Gilmore isn’t one of them…….

Theo Fleury and Doug Gilmour were tiny as they come, and they didn't seem to have a problem excelling in the playoffs.
I don't see much of either of Gilmore's or Fleury's game in Mitch's, but I am missing my rose coloured glasses.............

You can’t put Marner in the same class as Dougie Gilmour. Switch eras - Would Marner have played in the late 80s or 90s - Would Gilmour be putting up a 125 points a year today?

Given the choice every coach, GM, player and almost every fan would take prime Dougie over Marner.

I wasn’t referring to talent as much as saying all small players aren’t created equal, Gilmore was a warrior Marner isn’t, doesn’t detract from the things Marner exceeds at, just I don’t think he’s built for a run to the cup………

So far, he’s been a deterrent to having meaningful playoff success.

I wasn't comparing them to Marner. I could care less about Marner. I was simply saying that being 6'4 isn't a prerequisite to win a championship or be tough.
