I think the 79 Flyers still have the longest streak without a loss. Recollection is that it was 35 games, but I was pretty young at that point and I barely remember anything that happened yesterday.
It's definitely the Flyers, 35 sounds right. I vaguely remember that happening, it was surreal.
OT has been around since 1921 so...
Not in the regular season it hasn't.

What I remember about that season was the Cup final between the Flyers and Islanders, because there seemed to be fights in every game. Imagine the idea of seeing a fight in a Cup final game these days?

Finally the streak is done.
Today is the first great team they played during this streak.

The Oilers benefit from a weak division more than any other team in the league. Somehow they've convinced some hockey analysts they're contenders by beating a weak LA Kings team in the playoffs every year.

Ironically enough, since McDavid was drafted the Leafs eliminated the strongest team between both teams. The best part of the emergence of Vancouver is that for the first time in years the Oilers might have to play a real playoff team in the first round. If Vancouver sucked it'd be another season of getting to play a weak LA Kings team who hasn't won a round in a decade to prove they can win in the playoffs.

Still time of course, but Aidin Hill may be the starting goalie for Canada in the next Olympics.
Say that 10 times and all you can do is just shake your head. The guy looked like a complete stiff not even 2 years ago. He's turned things around greatly, but it also says a lot about the state of Canadian goaltending.

Even if Samsonov returns to his former self having the likes of Brodie playing in front of him won’t stop the bleeding………..

We'd crush them in zone time, and probably "scoring chances" but of course in reality, in the playoffs 40 foot shots with no one anywhere near the front of the net aren't really scoring chances..

It's a pretty grim position for Canada. Skinner? Jarry? Hill? Those are your options. If they let the Russians play in the Olympics, Shesterkin and Sorokin? Yikes.
