Leafs - Pens
Bruins - Panthers
Rangers - Islanders
Hurricanes- Devils
I think it's possible that the Islanders could take WC1, meaning Leafs/Islanders and Rangers/Pens. That would be a great match-up for the Leafs.

33 points in his last 15 games lol
Gunning for another MVP. Barring McDavid lapping everyone (which is definitely possible), I think MacKinnon would win the MVP over Kucherov.

Imagine, the mighty Boston Bruins, having won nothing since 2011, losing.
It takes some kind of arrogance to criticize the Bruins for having won nothing since 2011 when the team you cheer for hasn’t won shit in 56 years. Judge not lest yea be judged indeed………..

every time I see someone here describe the Leafs as the laughing stock of the league I think about the Sens

Michael Andlauer must be re-thinking his investment right about now.

I don't understand it myself. The Sens apparently have one of the best top 6 in the league, elite D and a captain who's considered a unicorn built for the post-season, and they still can't get out of the basement.

I say that because the world holds the Bruins up as some model of success (even this season), despite not really having any...success. Tell me the last time anyone, present company included, held the Leafs up as a model of success?

Meanwhile, I was surprised to see Florida beat Vegas last night. Conversely, not so surprised to see Ottawa lose yet again. Get ready to add another top 5 pick to their pile of prospects, I guess.

And get ready for that top pick to sign for $8M, because he "wants to win".

Must be another down year.

No wait, the team is still young and growing.

No wait, management turfed their best friend/coach, and playoff warrior can't handle it.

And so on...

The coaching change sure has done wonders for Ottawa.

the positive side for the sens is that they might be able to lock in a few more pre-RFA guys on 6-8 year contracts at an AAV that will be a vast underpayment within even a couple years. stark contrast to how we mishandled our RFAs.

Maybe, but the ones they locked in on bargain deals aren't exactly performing.

The mods finally closed that ridiculous Stutzle v. Matthews thread. Get ready for another one next year.

Always thought the Norris deal was terrible (signed him after a season with a high shooting %) and Chabot one had chances of not being great. Stutzle's contract is fine for what he brings offensively, but they need to add defence to their game if they ever want to win something. Sanderson will be fine, and is already better than chabot.

Their dumbest moves have been trading for people like Debrincat/Chychrun and trying to rush things.

I'm surprised at how bad Ottawa is. They have a nice collection of young talent that should see them be a lot better. Same goes for the Sabres.

But as we Leaf fans know, having high end young talent means squat if you get subpar goaltending, and can completely sewer any intentions of making significant progress. Korpisalo has been an absolute dud for them.

Among their top end guys I see two issues:

Stutzle is a terrific offensive talent, but he shouldn't be a centre at the NHL level. Their trying to force him into a role where he won't be successful (by success I mean wins). As a 1RW he'd be great and well worth his contract. Stick a quality two way centre between him and Brady and that's a terrific 1st line. Instead is Stutzle going head to head with Matthews, Crosby, McDavid, MacKinnon, Barkov, Hughes, etc and that just not amatchup he's going to come out on top of most nights.

Chabot/Chychrun/Sanderson are all the same player. They are Left shot offensive defensiveman who make some bad decisions that end up in the back of their own net and need #1 PP time and offensive usage to get the most out of. All are good players but adding Chychurn when you already have a carbon copy in Chabot doesn't improve the team. Sanderson is still young obviously, and will surpass both defensively, probably already has, but ideally you'd give him the Chabot minutes to help him through his development, not add another Chabot.

It'll be Stu v Willy next year after his new contract kicks in. Nothing like "X vs Y (with contracts included)" poll to get the people riled up.

Yep. You know it's coming. I'm sure the twit who'll start the thread will not take UFA v. RFA into consideration. It'll turn into another shitstorm with Sens fans coming to the defense of their guy, and haters jumping on the bandwagon.

Anything to pile on and hate on the leafs for these people. Don't they realize Edmonton also has the Sun. Maybe we should start posting dumb sports articles there on the main page and group them all together... Actually, nah, that's too much work
