Unlikely, even if we keep it rolling it's 6 points to tie them, 7 if you want to overtake them.
The Leafs would technically be ahead of them after that stretch because they will still have one game in hand on Boston.

Unfortunate loss last night for the Leafs, but damn am I glad I'm not an Oilers fan. The hope for us is that Edmonton misses the playoffs, Draisaitl takes his talent elsewhere, and McDavid decided to come home when his contract expires. Even an out of prime McD + Matthews would be an all time 1-2 punch at center

Interesting tidbit i read on their board. The three guys they couldnt keep Yamo, Bjugstad and Kostin have 32 points. Their two internal replacements and Brown have 9 points

That probably has a lot to do with it. Connor Brown was supposed to be a good depth forward for them with some history with McDavid. He plays 14 minutes a night and has 1 assist. A disaster.

They're not really outperforming their underlying metrics by any unsustainable amount. The real mystery is how they went from a below average defensive team to the best defensive team in the league overnight.
Probably the same way the Islanders did when they moved from Doug Weight to Barry Trotz (which also ended being a worst to (I think) league best defensive transition in one season). Better coaching.

I cannot fathom two things regarding Brown

1. The 3+ million in bonus money he was given
2. The pathetically easy 10 game qualifier he was given to achieve it

Tortorella did the same thing in columbus.. squeezed water from stone for years

The bonus was for them to outbid others... and it was the only way to fit him under the cap. The 10 game qualifier was meant to be easy to achieve.... it was part of his contract. They wanted to pay him $4 mil, but couldn't fit it under the cap... this was the only way. He was paid $4 mil, the previous two years on his last contract too... He was .61 PPG the two years prior to Washington, and played hard... they thought they were getting that guy. It was their way to skirt the cap for a year... but it's going to bite them in the butt next year.

I understand all of that - it doesnt excuse how useless and careless it was

Think about that, they got creative to win the race for connor brown

They are f***ed

There were many people here who wanted him back too.... I suppose they thought they could get the 0.61PPG guy too.....

..and yes, they screwed themselves now... I have mixed feelings about it really... I mean, it's wonderful it happens to the Oilers, but I like Brown, and it's a shame that he can't play post injury.

And ding ding.. post that injury, it was rediculous

The shit spewed here over gms and their inexcusable decisions - with 2 million already allocated to neal buyout next year they add another 3.25 to that.. so there goes the cap bump plus..

Colorado Avalanche defenceman Devon Toews called out his teammates after a 3-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night.

"I think we got some guys that think they're playing well, and I think they're kidding themselves at this point," Toews said. "It's frustrating to play out there when you got guys that think they're playing well, and you have no idea what play they're gonna make or where they're gonna be on the ice."

"It's tough to play in this league when you don't know where your teammates are gonna be."

Toews, 29, was without a point and had an even plus-minus while logging a season-high 29:50 of ice time in Tuesday's loss.

He did not point the finger at any specific players, but called out the effort level displayed as the 19-11-2 Avalanche lost to the 10-20-1 Blackhawks.

“It’s our awareness of what it takes to win hockey games,” Toews said. “That’s the difference, having guys in this room self-aware that it takes 60 minutes, a hard game play to play against any team in this league. I don’t care who we’re playing. This league is so good. It’s hard to win any night against any team in this league. You have to show up.

"We’ve got guys in here who aren’t showing up right now.”

It's been an inconsistent stretch for Colorado as the team has gone 4-5-1 to start the month of December. The Avalanche lost 6-2 to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday before bouncing back with a 6-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday.

The Avalanche will host the Ottawa Senators on Thursday and the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday before entering their holiday break.

While he’s maybe not wrong, I don’t imagine that those types of comments play well in a locker room

Could go either way but he has some clout in that room.. and things blowing up right now could be good for them

As long as the gm and coach are responsive enough to identify and deal with the problems
