It's possible, but It's a tough one because ROR was such an X Factor, but I'm also not sure that It's necessary to have as big an impact, reason being that last year they had a drought of not even winning a round that stretched back to 2004.

John Tavares ended that drought in OT of game 6 and so that pressure is gone, now they know they can close out series.

Now strictly speaking about the defense Yeah I think they would have a bigger impact because in Pesce, Hanafin and Tanev you are talking about 3 legitimate top 4 men, 2 of them in Pesce and Hanifin being legitimate top pair.

Luke Schenn is not that guy, I love Luke Schenn but he is not that guy, he is not the caliber of a Pesce, Hanifin or even a Tanev.

And I'm throwing Tanev in there because while Pesce and Hanifin would solve A LOT, Tanev might be the guy we need, because Rielly and Brodie together works, It's McCabe that really needs a partner
What are the odds that Carolina even trades Pesce? It's hard to imagine that they would be so far out of the playoff race at the end of February that they would elect to trade him. Seems unlikely to me. I think Tanev ends up being the most attainable guy at the most realistic price. I'm not sure Treliving would give up the assets it would take to acquire Hanifin.

On a completely unrelated note, everyone in Buffalo's management team should be fired. It should be unacceptable for them to be as bad as they have been this season.

So what. You really think that going in, they thought it was impossible to win a series, come on now. They were so inspired with this new found wisdom, that they went got crushed by a massive underdog.

Underdog by who? Florida just came out of beating Bos and ran to the Cup. Those same people who keep saying the Leafs are Cup favourites? Who get it wrong every year?

Samsonov played like shit in the playoffs 6 of the 8 games he finished he allowed 3+ goals.

He's a dog shit goaltender as he's proved in the playoffs and again this season.

Boston just lost to one of the worst teams in the league. I don't think anyone here needs to worry much about Boston.

Just gained a point on us though. They are 6 points ahead.

Very rare to over take that even with a game at hand

My guess is that Toronto overtakes Boston by the end of December. Boston is playing pretty poorly. They have been under .500 in the last 12 or 13 games.

By the people that set the betting lines, that's who.

I don't recall them ever having the Leafs as cup favorites. They're usually among the top 5-6 teams or so when the playoffs start, but never the favorites.

Who gets what wrong? What are you talking about?

What's your point? The Leafs beat Tampa, then like I said, they got crushed by Florida.

They've outplayed us this season. I seem to remember you guaranteeing we'd beat Chicago more than once, how did that go? How does Chicago stack up against the team that beat Boston tonight? If nobody needs to worry about Boston, then nobody needs to worry about the Leafs either then, correct?

My advice is to think carefully before answering. :)

At least you're guessing now, instead of guaranteeing. That's huge progress, good stuff!

Overcoming a 6 point deficit to Boston in 5 games before (both Leafs and Bruins play 5 games) before January 1 would seem to be a tall order.

You think That the leafs get 7 more points than Boston in the next 5 games?

So what

Toronto 5-0
Boston. 1-3-1

I guess?

Boston is playing poorly. Not much better than a .500 team over the last month or so.

Wow, 9-4 Columbus in Buffalo. What on earth happened there?

Buffalo is no stranger to blowouts this year. Tire fire defensively and their goalies playing dodgeball in net. Leafs need to pound those guys on Thursday

Also, don't look now but Edmonton sucks again

The schedule hasn't been gifting them opponents on the second half of a BTB like it did during most of their win streak

I think they might be the only team in the league that hasn't played a BTB yet.
