I don't know, we've got a comfy division, too.
Since 2018, the Atlantic division has had the two best teams in the league, and 4 of the top 7.
An Atlantic division team has made the cup final every single year, and during the Covid year, two Atlantic division teams made the cup final.
An Atlantic division team has won the President's trophy every year the division has existed, and is tied with the Central for the most cups in that time.
We'd have a much easier time in the Pacific.

Does the NHL fine Player Agents? If so, Walsh is likely to get his hands slapped hard for his comments about the Perron suspension.

He’s right about one thing though, no consitency with DoPs or officiating.
Don't see how they could fine an agent as they don't work for the NHL.

We'd still be in third..

In 2018-2019, we were 5th in the East. Would have been 3rd in the West.
In 2019-2020, we were 8th in the East. Would have been 6th in the West.
In 2020-2021, there were no conferences.
In 2021-2022, we were 3rd in the East. Would have been 2nd in the West.
In 2022-2023, we were 4th in the East. Would have been 1st in the West.
We also would have won our division the past two years, being in the Pacific.
And that's before factoring in the easier schedule we would have in the west.

Great. And I mentioned that Boston, TB, and Florida were quite good for one season. But, perhaps the reason for that kind of point accumulation is because the other 4 of the other teams in the division have been absolute crap, usually amongst the worse 5 in the league.

Also, I don't know why you think changing conferences would make it easier. You'd still have to play the best teams out there in the PO, and given that this team lost to CBJ and MTL, I'm not sure they would fare any better out there.

I won't even go into the travel issues.

Think all the could do is suspend/revoke their credentials. I would imaging that would take a lot more than a critical comment.

So-called "travel issues" get wildly overblown anyway. These guys have private jets. Every division has bad teams in it, and the worst team in the league over that time is in the pacific. The overall record of the Atlantic is still better than the Pacific when you include all teams, despite the tougher level of competition. Those also aren't the teams we're battling against for spots. Being in the Pacific would have given us easier opponents in the playoffs each year (on average, facing 95 point teams instead of 103 point teams), and while any team can beat any team, especially given circumstances and context you're excluding, facing worse teams is still better than facing better teams.

A frame by frame view of the incident showed he purposely put his stick between Liljegren's legs. Marchard is a very smart, dirty player.
I don’t believe that’s what he was trying to do, but his stick ended up there. I think his intention was to play hard and win the puck battle, not to injure the player.

Well, that seems like someone who doesn't travel and play professional sports because if one can't see how effects travel between even Pacific and central divisions could mount up, then on top of that, coming to the eastern divisions, then you should check out a map.

Also, the Leafs played 90-ish-point teams in CBJ, MTL, and FLA and they still lost. The West also has 3 of the last 5 cup winners as well.

But all you're saying here is Boston and Tampa have been good and discounting how piss-poor the rest of the division has been over most of the last ten years.

The Leafs play in a division with two teams that are in a perpetual rebuild in Ottawa and Buffalo, Detroit, who started their rebuild once Babcock jumped ship and have not made the playoffs since 2016. Montreal, who range anywhere from a bubble team to a team, willingly tanking. Florida is the only team that has made meaningful strides over the last three years, but let's not forget that prior to that, they were the poster boys for underachievement.

I don't see it as hard to admit that the Bruins, TB, and Leafs regular season points have been somewhat influenced by how bad the divisional opponents have been.

I don't know if this it's a coping issue as to why the Leafs under KD's stewardship underachieved or that some Oilers or Canucks fans pissed in your cornflakes, but it just doesn't hold water for me.

Should have stayed with the Gophers another year

Hes a PP specialist at this point in his career. Man what a weak draft 2022 was in terms of the top end. D+2 now and theres still really been no huge stand outs. Nemec and Mintykov have probably had the best showings so far.

I am seeing these cards more often.. are they basically 0 to 100 rating
Yeah, the numbers usually represent what percentile they are in for that category.

gotcha - is there by chance a breakdown of how the rating is decided/calculated?

Ottawa and Buffalo have to be the biggest disappointments this year. Both are unstable and I expect Ottawa will make a coaching change soon.
Few weeks ago it was the Sharks and Oilers that looked pathetic, it’s a long season, maybe the Sen’s and Sabres can get it together, not saying playoff bound, but they could start playing some good hockey………

It’s why he’s the undisputed best…….

Not sure tbh. All these people have their own models that will look at a variety of stats with different weighting. I always take these cards with a grain of salt because they're a black box to the public. You don't really know the specifics as to how they got their numbers.

Just took a look and they do have a breakdown of what stats are going into their model but they don't elaborate on the weightings.

Perhaps, but I think there may be too many off ice distractions in those organizations.

All teams have to travel. Yes, western teams tend to rack up more travel time, but sitting on a private plane for an extra hour once in a while isn't that big of a deal, and there's no evidence that it impacts performance. Yes, any team can lose to any team, and we have unfortunately lost to some teams with points in the 90s before for reasons that you have excluded. That doesn't change the fact that it is more beneficial to face worse teams than better teams, and playing in the Pacific would have led to us, on average, playing 95 point teams instead of 103 point teams.

I have not discounted the rest of the division. You are discounting the quality of the top teams in our division over that time (including dumping the 7th best team in the league in with "bad" teams), the bad teams in other divisions, and the fact that when accounting for the entire division, the Atlantic is still better (meaning that if anything, it's more likely the point totals underrepresent the true quality). I'm not sure why you have such a strong opinion about a simple statement wishing to be in a division/conference that has objectively been worse and would have given us easier paths. Seems like something any fan would want.

Fascinating to see Detroit, largely considered to be the weakest of the potential breakout Atlantic teams, is performing the best while Buffalo and Ottawa look as bad as they usually do. Way too early to be looking at playoff matchups but I'd love to rekindle the rivalry with the Red Wings somehow this spring.

Like Good Lord what is Buffalo doing here?

Travel is a disadvantage for the west teams that play in three time zones.
