After that atrocious start San Jose has climbed ahead of Chicago an Anaheim in the standings.

The Ducks are 1-9 in their last 10.
San Jose on paper didn't seem to be as bad as their start indicated they may be. Not overly surprised they have strung some wins together. Nor am I surprised to see the Blackhawks and Ducks below them -- both teams are awful.

I don't know, we've got a comfy division, too.

There's Boston and TB. The others have been varying levels of crap for the last 5+ years.
And now Tampa is mediocre, as well. People love to rave every off-season about how difficult the Atlantic will be, and then every season Ottawa, Buffalo and Montreal are terrible. At least this season Detroit is not a bottom feeder. Not a good team yet, but at least not Ottawa, Buffalo and Montreal. Maybe they have a shot at overtaking Florida or Boston for third place in the division, but if not the top three will be Toronto, Boston and Florida.

I've watched a few of their games and they work their asses off. Ever since the 10 g.a blowouts, Grier (I believe it was him and not Quinn) ripped them a new asshole and they got the message loud and clear.

I understand that those events did happen at the same time essentially and I have zero evidence to support this but I suspect Grier losing it on the team has actually nothing to do with their turnaround.

I’m just not sure what the conversation could possibly offer:

One of the very worst teams in the league last year. Does little to nothing to improve in offseason. Trades best player. Is expected to be really bad. In turn plays very bad. How many guys on that team do you honestly think care if the GM gets mad at them? Like maybe a guy with a two way contract, but bonafide NHLers? Any trade would be a move up the standings at that point lol

Without the threat of being traded away it’s just a guy, who is not in the trenches with you, reaming you because he didn’t build you good enough. I don’t know how many people actually respond positively to that

I understand some guys would actually care about being traded because it’s where they’ve set up home, but actively choosing to stay with a bottom feeder at the start of what could be a looong rebuild is a red flag

He blasted them for not putting in an acceptable effort.
Only they know whether it had an impact or not so I won't claim to be certain that's the reason they've raised their effort level so dramatically. It could absolutely just be a coincidence.

Metro division is weird .. someone the Flyers in the mix in 3rd while the Isles are tied with them, ahead of Carolina and New Jersey ... strange times

Does the NHL fine Player Agents? If so, Walsh is likely to get his hands slapped hard for his comments about the Perron suspension.

He’s right about one thing though, no consitency with DoPs or officiating.

I'm not enamored with players who mess with other players going into the end boards at speed. One of the reasons for the new icing rules. Marchand though is fine with tripping players into the end boards, so there is that crew.
Marchand on Liljegren was unfortunate, but he was battling for a puck and got his stick tangled.
