So columbus is offering 3.25M for 2 years, and RyJo's camp wants 4.5.

3.25M for 2y is solid. All in all, no matter how much he gets paid, RyJo will have to get a least 60 points again.

Behind you, look out
I feel for CBL fans. Look at the history of their first round picks

2000 - Klesla 4th (okay pick)
2001 - Pascal Leclaire 8th (injury prone traded to us)
2002 - Rick Nash 1st (Golden boy, asked to be traded later to NYR)
2003 - Zherdev 4th (contract disputes)
2004 - Alex Picard 8th (Bust)
2005 - Gilbert Brule 6th (Bust)
2006 - Derick Brassard 6th (Good pick, later traded to NYR)
2007 - Jakub Voracek 7th (Traded for a guy that didnt want to play there)
2008 - Filatov 6th (Traded to us for a 3rd round pick)
2009 - John Moore 21st (Traded to NYR)
2010 - Ryan Johansen 4th (Contract Disputes)

So, in their first 10 drafts, 3 were traded to NYR, 2 to us, 2 had contact disputes, 2 were busts and 1 was traded for a guy that never wanted to be there.

They turned Carter into Jack Johnson though, so that wasn't too bad.

And throughout all of that, they've had a pretty solid fanbase, too.

That looks like a slowmo version to show what exactly happened... so the full-speed version is probably more vicious.

But how many concussions has this guy had?

The problem is he's small and he doesn't know how to avoid getting hammered. At least other small guys are hard to hit.

I've been saying it for 2 years now: Skinner is effectively out of the league by 30.

His head was a foggy mess already before this... he's at the Paul Kariya tipping point.

Habs get pounded 2 games in a row. Trade for Tangradi. Not a coincidence. We're in there heads

As much as I hate them they had to send Budaj or Tokarski down through waivers so they traded one of them

Has nothing to do with the two preseasons games

Guy gets caught with his head down more than Lindros. He doesn't avoid hits because he never sees them coming.

Edit: Nice pickup for the Jets.

Yep. Kid loves to watch his own passes, too. The scary part is that if you watch him play, you can see plenty of situations where he could have been steamrolled, but players let up instead and gave him a light bump instead of a Stevens-style K.O. hit. The book is out on Skinner, and the league knows that he's an easy target out there.

If concussions can wreck a big hoss like Lindros, they can surely upend the career of a smaller guy who refuses to put his head on a swivel.

Heh, Johansen got the big contract escalation at the end of the deal that he wanted:

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline
Johansen terms: $3M in 2014-15, $3M in 2015-16 and $6M in 2016-17.

That means Columbus has to qualify him at $6mil+ at the end of those three years in order to keep his rights. He'll probably earn it at that point, but it's nice to have that security blanket just in case.

A rare win for both sides.

Can't Columbus just go to arbitration to retain his rights?

Need to send in the QO first to retain rights, then if they decline the offer - you start negotiating... and if that doesn't go anywhere, arbitration is an option.

Also I'm not sure which side has arbitration rights off the top of my head when the contract expires.

I think they will regret not signing him long-term now for whatever he is asking. Lots of new broadcast deals this season ensures league wide revenues will go up, in 3 years he will be 1 year from UFA and looking for full market value. At $6-7m on a long term deal the worst case scenario is he doesn't improve and you have a slightly overpaid center who might become fairly paid as the cap goes up.

Should have rolled the dice, the odds were favourable. He's a good player.

It's good that they got him signed before the games begin, though.
