I seem to recall them having something similar a while back where there were certain circumstances where 2 consecutive faceoff violations would result in a minor. Might have been on the PK.

2 consecutive faceoff violations is always a minor for delay of game.

Changes I like

-Goalkeeper's Restricted Area expanding (more room for playing the puck!)
-'Spin-O-Rama' Penalty Shot removed (always hated this)
-Hockey Operations to assist the referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (prefer the right calls to be made versus getting the "that type of play isn't reviewable" line)
-Face Off hash marks widened (gives more space to avoid getting tangled up on faceoffs).

Changes I'm Unsure about
-Tripping will still be a penalty even if the puck is touched first with the body/arm/shoulder(I get it may help with safety, but also limits nice defnesive plays imo)
-Puck out of bounds stays in attacking zone (May produce more offence but to me it rewards lack of control and I like that defending teams kind of had an "out").
-Diving related fines (like the concept, but hope that the penalties are reviewed before fining and not just given based on what is on the score sheet, as sometimes officials may see things that didn't actually happen and that'd be unfortunate).

No prospective rule change that I absolutely hate, so overall not bad!

Yeah I like this wording of the rule actually as they've changed it.

The issue before was that you used to send in a winger or whatever to intentionally get waved out, then your real center comes in to take the faceoff.

Now you have to use your real center, they get a warning but stay in - so you can't waste time with people skating around and changing positions.

I'm kinda sad about the change to the puck first rule on breakaway defense. Plus it'll probably lead to a bunch more dives that won't get called because refs never call real dives.

Montreal diving like the Canucks against the Rangers probably got the League to consider these diving fines

Man were they ever pathetic in that series

I don't really care but I don't see why the spin-o-rama had to be banned

Why a lot of people don't like it:

1) As the rule states that "the puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent’s goal line", the very concept of a 360 spin infers that the puck is going away from the goal line at some point, thereby breaking the intention of the rule.
2) Due to this fact, some refs tended to blow the play dead while others would allow it based on how they percieved it.
3) In a lot of the cases, the player ends up running into/interfering with the goalie, which results in another point where the referee has to use his judgement whether the goal should count or not.

Getting rid of it makes things alot more consistent and simple imo. There are a lot of other ways to have a creative move without needing to spin (which imo isn't really a "skilled move" anyways).

I'm a fan of the new face off violation rules after an icing. That stuff was always blatant and it's nice that it'll be a minor penalty now.

NHL Announces New Rules for 2014/15 Season

The NHL released the rule changes for the upcoming season.

Here's The Quick Rundown:

1) Trapezoid extended by two feet on both sides of the goal posts
2) Clipping, charging, elbowing, interference, kneeing, head-butting and butt-ending go from being regular penalties to "Physical Fouls" - the second offence within the same season earns a one-game suspension.
3) "Spin-O-Rama" no longer allowed in shootouts.
4) Video Goal Judges given more power in goal reviews.
5) a defending player will now get a 2-minute "Tripping" penalty on a diving play to break up the puck (like, for instance, when diving forward with your stick to try and break up a breakaway), regardless of whether the defending player touches the puck first or not (old rule: if the defending player touched the puck first - no penalty)
6) Higher fines for repeat "diving" offenders (looking at you, Kesler). Head coaches will now be eligible for fines for diving players as well.
7) 2-minute "delay of game" penalties for face-off delay tactics when a team has iced the puck.
8) Coaches no longer have to submit a 3-player list for shootouts.
9) Some changes on where the faceoff will be when the puck is out of bounds.
10) Hash marks in the circles will be international-sized (ie: bigger).

I don't get the need for #5. Why make it a penalty to make a good defensive play? And the offensive player will now have more incentive to fall down with any contact.

And any of these rules with more penalties being called scare me because our players are too dumb to not take them. We are going to be the guinea pig of every rule.

And #10 is interesting, it's probably meant to discourage teams from doing the blades of steel period intro because now they will get too tired with the bigger circles. Good they are taking this seriously

It's a parasite, apparently. I'm on some pretty serious meds.

If anyone ever tells you that Indonesia is some tropical paradise, you tell 'em otherwise.

To clarify, I believe the circles aren't actually bigger, just the hashmarks for them :)

I like most of them but there are a couple that are odd..

Like Lenny said, #5 is one I don't think I will like..

The other odd one is the one game suspension for repeated "physical fouls". I get that Kneeing and head butting, butt ending should be in there, but Interference? Charging? I've seen people get 2 or 3 of those in the same game let alone in the same season. Interference especially.

Not the minor penalties. Game misconducts resulting from one of those violations. The accumulation of 2 game misconducts on the back of any of those "physical fouls" will get an automatic one game suspension.
