I always thought the easy fix for the LTIR thing was to simply make your playoff game day roster cap compliant.

IE you can exceed the cap so you aren't punished for making a trade to essentially replace your LTIR guy, but you don't get to ice both of them simply because your timing was fortunate.

Faber let the team in ice time tonight and looked good doing it.

He looked solid. Looked like he belonged.

Made all the right plays. I noticed he had really good positioning and was able to break up plays (and a few really good pokechecks) because of his positioning.

I can certainly see him logging a ton of minutes in the future (like Doughty) and perhaps wear a letter down the road with Minny.

He looked pretty good. A couple of errors, one on a bad change but overall real impressive. I don’t know if they will play him in the playoffs (I would over Dumba and Merrill) but he will slot right in next fall.

I am at the Mall of America with my daughter for her spring break. We are going to the Wild/Jets game tonight, hoping Faber is back in the lineup, will be good to see how he looks Vs an actual NHL team.

Flames followed the 2015 Kings’ pattern of leaving points on the table.

Sutter is to cute for his own good sometimes. Ritchie probably worked harder than anyone else so he “rewarded” him while hurting the team. Just like he did when he sent Clifford out as the extra attacker.

It’s just going to be tough to overcome making the wrong choice back to back years with top 5 picks. People can say they hate bringing it up, but they basically had back to back years where they were debating between 2 players and chose spectacularly wrong both years. The 2019 draft is going to end up being a great one and Stutzle’s play the first 3 years has him down a HOF path.

Good for him - i'm sure he's happy being in Minnesota like he wanted. Trade going to work out for both teams. We are logjammed at RHD and needed a dynamic player like Fiala.

It was a good trade for both teams, but Faber would have signed with the Kings after this season. He just preferred the University of Minnesota over the Ontario Reign for this year.

I would trade Fiala for a 1st and an LHD equivalent of Faber right now.

Not sure I would. The way the Kings roster is constructed with so many guys in their prime or the end of the line a guy like Fiala helps with the 3 year cup window. He has also been a huge boost to the PP.

I dunno, a 20 year-old mobile, defensive defenseman who has already played in the Olympics and slotted into the second pairing right away seems pretty helpful, and pretty special.

Yesterday could have been:
Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov - Roy
Faber equivalent - Clarke/Spence

Seems like a pretty good defensive corps for a 3-year cup window.

Yeah, but you have to look at the cap situation. In that scenario you'd have all the cap space you need to retain Gavrikov and Korpisalo without losing anyone. A trade like that makes us better now and in the future.

I'm not sure who LAK fans compared him against, but to me he looked in terms of how he moved on the ice very similar to Doughty. Faber is a really strong skater with really fluid hips and really understands positioning/leverage and seems pretty poised. Also seems to be relatively similar physically to a player like Doughty.

I'm not sure if he has the same shot or offensive skills but that's just actually to me who physically Faber moved and resembled. Although, I haven't seen Doughty as much as you have especially when younger and in his prime so that could be doing a disservice to Doughty.

One of the reasons why it is important to see the distinction between Fiala being your highest scoring winger but NOT on the first line is that while you are getting incredible depth in production, you still have to pay other "first" line wingers as well. That title alone costs you more, especially in arbitration.

Fiala is a very unusual player at the moment, but appears to be at the dawn of a new trend of puck-dominant offense-only wingers/rovers who can't mesh well with top tier playmaking centers.

Hell of a player to watch, just not sure yet if it is a plus or minus to have a guy like that. Hated the deal the second it was announced due to being such a fan of Faber's, and nearly a full season later I don't see any reason to change that opinion.

Faber doesn't have the offensive abilities Doughty has nor the ability to control the flow and tempo of a game. Though, there are not many defensemen like that. Maybe Lidstrom? Makar?

Comparing Faber's playing style to Doughty isn't really an accurate comparable, but I do appreciation your 'fluid hips' fascination.
