i'm not too interested in doing all the math but even letting ALL of their UFAs walk how do they make cap? or do they just robidas island mark stone away and the league turns the other cheek?

They'll move players in the off-season and other GMs will give them what they want.

So SJ is going to retain on Hertl's contract for the next 6 years after this one. That's a long time. Very rare you see a team do retention for that long. In fact, that might be the longest I can remember.

If VGK is healthy for the playoffs, they'll have a ton of depth.

There is no LTIR loophole. It is all working exactly as designed. Kudos to VGK for finding the hack and using it.

The set-up was perfectly timed. There was nothing but money stopping the Kings from keeping their banged up guys on LTIR.

I can't stand Vegas...

I love when teams go all in and when teams exploit loopholes. What I hate is the NHL not having a level surface. Two things that need to be in next CBA:
1) some sort of cap inflator based on a teams tax rate
2) requirement for iced roster in playoff game to be under cap. This would allow teams to go over cap for LTIR, but when everyone is healthy they could scratch and it would give them a penalty. Ice best lineup under the cap when everyone is healthy.
