I know I've been saying this for years, but I'm still annoyed LA didn't pursue Mason Marchment when he was a UFA.

I understand the cap situation and risks at the time, but the analytics were saying yes. It's so rare those type of players are available. Teams give up an arm and a leg for that type of player (see Jeannot).

He's killing it for Dallas right now. He's exactly they type of player we're lacking.
I wanted to dump Iafallo and pick up Marchment so bad. But not really this front office's style.

The whole hate from Sens fans comes from the fact that Doughty won a Norris and he won a cup twice. Sens fans entire pride and joy is the fact that Karlsson won a Norris. And it hurts their feelings that Doughty who you can make a strong case for, had a style that wins cups in his prime along with being a Norris level dman.

Karlsson will go down as a very talented OFD but it’s also no surprise that the times in his career where’s really shined was on bad teams because he got to play loose with no repercussions. There’s a couple instances when the Sens went deep in the playoffs and Sweden won gold. Those are the two instances where he’s had some team success but overall nothing impressive at all team wise.

It must make them insecure because Doughty got the Kings to the end of the line. Karlsson was never able to. I know it hurts Sens fans and that makes me happy. I’m honestly more impressed that Stutzle didn’t dive into the goal. This byfield vs Stutzle contention is just getting started.

Both fanbases needlessly tore down the other player because they thought it propped up their guy, instead of appreciating two of the greatest defenseman of all-time and how great they were in the 2010's.

I don't think to much changes if the players had been drafted by the other team. Maybe the Kings don't win in 2014 because the margin was razor thin and that was absolute peak Doughty, he was in his stone prime and just elevated his game to an insane level, the best of his career. Karlsson was similar in 2017 (just didn't have the support) but no guarantee he does it in 2014 and the Kings needed every bit of Drew putting on the cape. 2012 it wouldn't have mattered, the Kings were just a wagon with Quick playing like prime-Hasek.

When you go down the team success path to dunk on a player I just think of Marcel Dionne and (different sport but same idea) Mike Trout. It's more an indication of the team than the player, it's the NHL not the NBA or NFL (for QB's) where 1 guy has such a huge impact. Had Drew been drafted by Ottawa it's extremely unlikely he has any rings either, same thing for Kopitar had Columbus taken him over Brule.

I still wonder if the Kings gave any thought to drafting Karlsson in 2008, they went RHD with their first 3 picks and Voynov was clearly an offensive d-man, so they felt they needed that in the pipeline. Was there any thought to taking the offensive guy at 13 and then looking for the toughness where they took Voynov? Could you imagine, that would have been one of the alltime great drafts by a team.

On a well-deserved extension for Jonny B:

I just don't understand the need to tear down other players...

...Auston Matthews is going to completely lap whoever you have as your best American born player ever
I've never understood the need to pump up players just because of where they're born but I suspect it stems from the same part of the brain.

I'm way more impressed by Quick (388) passing Hasek in wins (389) than I am in him passing Miller (391) but because Quick and Miller happen to have been born in the USA every American fan is somehow invested in it.

Who cares? It's a made up record.

Quick was the best Kings goaltender of all time and Ryan Miller isn't in the conversation for best goaltenders of all time.

Even DL was like wow, I could've had both those guys. Doughty-Karlsson starting duo would've been insane. They probably could've found toughness way further back than the 2nd .

They probably wouldn't have made the third pick if it turned out this way, but can you imagine if they pulled Doughty-Karlsson-Voynov?

I mean I guess as long as we're in fantasyland it could have been Doughty-Karlsson-Josi haha

Wouldn't have mattered if they didn't find the toughness later on because they actually didn't find it in Teubert anyways.

When it came to "what ifs" with Teubert, it was always about not taking Myers since the Kings traded down one spot so Buffalo could take him and then the Kings took Teubert. Myers won the Calder and the move immediately looked stupid.

Funny enough, the 2009 pick Lombardi acquired from Buffalo for moving down one spot in 2008 was flipped at the 2009 draft in a trade down for two additional picks: the first of those picks being Nicholas Deslauriers.

I guess Lombardi ultimately did find toughness via the Teubert related transaction.

On the flip side, Marchment is the biggest diver in the league.

This is when Ken Belanger wasn’t really doing the job or being scratched. But still the Kings had Deadmarsh, Buchberger, Lappy and even Allison and Boucher could throw.

Surprising. I thought only LA could lose.

There must be 20 playoff pretenders in the league.

8 really bad teams and 4 contenders.
I hope you don't have VAN as a contender, they've lost 4 in a row. I'm expecting a head coaching change any moment now.

BOS is 4-3-3 in last 10...LOL, losers.
