Granted a leave of absence by his Swiss team. You may be on to something there.

I'd look to NJ. Apparently a few guys conspicuous by their absence at a function and team practice this AM.
Formenton has been linked for a while, it's why he was never given a new contract. Bit of a double standard as guys who had already inked deals before this all came out earned big pay cheques. However what really are the teams to do if they have a guy on their roster who is linked? Cannot terminate without the charges first, and I don't think they can pay players to not play.

Cal Foote is a devil, but who knows.

Well considering 5 of those players are turning themselves into the police today I think most can connect the dots.
Most can, of course, but it could also be terrible timing/coincidence. I just think speculating about anyone being involved with a crime, especially one as heinous as the Team Canada one, is something that we can afford to exercise restraint until something official comes out.

I know I wouldn't want to be tied to it. Or if, say, a Kings player was tied to it.

But to each their own. I'm not a mod here.

Unlikely since the Kings keep trading all their picks.

Happy the victims are getting their justice finally after all this time. Hoping the response is measured, complete, and fair.

I know we can put 2 and 2 together here, but until the players have been officially named and charged lets avoid the speculation on the players. If you want to talk about the case, I would just visit the thread on the main forum.

Fair,
With Dube's leave from the team. If he is charged I am disgusted as a Calgarian that the Flames put out a video in support of Dube citing mental health being a priority for the club. Not sure where else to say that other than here.

And if they're being wrongly accused, do you hope the woman rots in hell?

There’s clearly a case here or it wouldn’t be dragging on for 6 years… which is also extremely embarrassing. That poor girl has had to deal with this and I’m sure they will just get a slap on the wrist. She gets nothing out of this for lying.

People who falsely accuse and ruin lives of innocent people absolutely deserve the worst.

But it's already been stated this woman is willing to testify under oath and relive the experience. She already got her settlement and has nothing to gain.

I'm admittedly a bit dismayed your initial response is talking about a reported rape victim lying.

The ease with which some of you will entertain the single-digit-percent scenario of 'false sexual assault accusation' tells me all I need to know about how you view women, and which side you empathize with

what sucks is it happens which makes it both harder for victims to come forward and for them to be taken seriously.
There is enough reporting on this incident that I feel uncomfortable in saying it happened.

You know what makes it harder for victims to come forward? The instant, deafening chorus of skeptical athlete-defenders and smarmy due process 'experts' that crawl out of the woodwork whenever this happens. The only effect these dudes (always, 100%) have is to muddy the water and prop up misogynistic tropes

Arm chair Attorneys need to slow their role until the investigation/trial is complete.

What about the false allegations against Doughty in 2012 Drew Doughty to be cleared in Los Angeles sexual assault investigation: TMZ - Yahoo Sports

Or what about the false allegations against Duke Lacrosse team? Duke lacrosse case - Wikipedia

Is the single digit instance you reference to false allegations accurate? Honestly curious. Not saying these guys are guilty or innocent, just saying there is lots to gain making false allegations against multi millionaires and I will wait to pass judgement.

There isn't enough room on the internet to list all the true accusations plus the crimes that go unreported plus those that go unpunished. Excuse me for not being moved by a couple exceptions.

That's because you are removed from the exceptions, what if it was you? Being accused, and that accusation, JUST that accusation, caused you to lose your job, your house, your family, and then, after all that, found out it was false, a bit too late there right?

I'm not saying guilty one way or the other, for anyone, but this rush to judge by society, is criminal in and of itself, in a country where innocent until proven guilty is the foundation of the law of the country, we are now at a point where just a mere accusation, can lose someone everything they have.

Just an accusation shouldn't trigger such an immediate and harsh reaction, that's all I'm saying that's all I think he was saying.

Like I said, being able to empathize with that rare scenario and not a far worse, common scenario says a lot.

How in the f*** is that saying one can't empathize with the other?
I don't want to hear the chorus of corny scaremongering hallucinations about "omg it could happen to you" as if there's a false accuser around every corner

Statistics vary but somewhere around 1 in 4 women experience sexual violence in their lifetime

The way sports chuds react to issues like this makes it appear as though either outcome is equally plausible, which has a detrimental cultural impact on victims

I don't think you guys are pro-assault but I think the attention and compassion and empathy doled out should be more reflective of real-world probability

From what I understood about this case is, Team Canada paid off the girl and her family. The Canadian federal government is resurrecting this case. Team Canada sponsors have bailed out from the team and some of the leadership group quit in the fall. Where there is smoke like that there is generally fire, but no one knows until the facts come out.
