I don’t buy this at all. You are ignoring the most relevant details of why this is a scam.
(1) The season he was to play, and for the three subsequent seasons, Hossa was only to receive $1m each of those four years. He had already been paid $59m of his $63m contract. He received $4m the season preceding his retirement and $7.9m the season before that.
(…what a coincidence…)

(2) Hossa played in 89% of regular season games and 100% of the Hawks 4 playoff games. Together he played in 89.5% of all games.
(…Within a few months he can’t put on his pads…)

(3) The Hawks have an extensive history of using these loopholes to get out of their cap problems. I can document these but most fans are aware of Kane‘s miracle healing and them getting out of the horrible Seabrook and Hosea contracts. (Which means they cheated against the cap not only near the end of those bad contracts but also each year of the contract because their cap was artificially low the years Hossa and Seabrook actually played. e.g., the Hawks paid Hossa $59m to play 8 years…an avg of $7.37m per year. Hossa’s actual cap hit those years was $5.25. The Hawks actually got an extra $2m per year. ..must be nice…
You don’t want to see this calculation for Seabrook, which was the worst contract in hockey. Sickening, while the Kings had to wait out Brown and trade Quick.
So you think they forced Hossa to retire? And that he was lying about his condition and has kept up this lie for years? You also totally misunderstand his condition. It's not "within a few months he can't put on his pads." It's fine to wear the pads a for an hour or so, but prolonged consistent usage was the problem, he had been suffering through it even while he was still playing. Again, what did the Hawks really gain? They lost their best defensive forward who was still putting up respectable numbers whom they were never able to replace to save a few million? If they really were as suave as you're claiming wouldn't you think they'd gee, I don't know, get out of a contract for an easily replaceable and worse player in order to keep Hossa?

I can't speak for him, but I think Hossa was able to bear the discomfort when he was getting more money, but didn't think it was worth bearing when only getting paid $1 million/year.

Which I get it, but he should have retired.

Wouldnt it make a lot more sense if Florida were the Hurricanes and CAR the Panthers like their FB team.. Could revive the old NY Giant's idiom of putting the sport name before the team name.

This run by the Panthers is one of the most impressive runs I've seen in a while. Huge, huge props to them.

Like the 2012 Kings they barely made the playoffs but played their best hockey when it mattered the most. They also took charge of a couple of the series by being beasts on the road and opening 3-0, the Boston one being the exception.
And like the 2014 Kings they went through some of the best teams in the league to reach the finals.

We'll see if they make it all the way. Sure looks like a team of destiny right now.

Would love to see an analysis on this how this year's team was built. So many strong opinions around here on what is the right and wrong way to build a team (and of course how LAK management is doing it the wrong way), would be very interesting to see what direction the Panthers went.

Looking forward to hearing Luc talk about the Panthers and repeat “get in and anything can happen” for eternity.

Funny thing is....it's not just the Kings that say it.....it's...wait for it.....ALL PRO SPORTS teams....

But because Luc said it, it's bullshit.......(not attributing that to you directly, just on this forum generally)

Game 1 of the SCF isn't until June 3.

Wild stat. The last 3 presidents trophy winners won the cup the year after they won the presidents trophy. Florida won the presidents trophy last year.
The Kings didn't need no stinkin' President's Trophy!

Luc says it a lot, going back to the Andy Murray days when he was playing. To the point where you wonder if they have their priorities in order. Of course you have to make the playoffs but stating that as your goal for the season is setting expectations low and not doing everything you can to better your chances in the playoffs by being a higher seed. It says, “We know we’re not great, but if we just get in, who knows?”. Is it any wonder why the Kings are one of the few teams in the league without an elite level regular season? They tank every year as soon as they clinch. You never heard Yzerman and the Wings say that shit.

What defines an elite level regular season?

I feel like Boston will be in tough if their top two centers retire.

that whole thing with hossa just stunk to high heaven. if this allergy was so bad how was hossa able to endure it for so many years of consistent play? and if it was recently developed, the antigen (noxious source) should have been relatively easy to isolate.
all this is ancient history. but the blackhawks and the wertz family have been getting away with murder for so long its maddening to me at least.

axl i think the bigger question is are they even trying to build a team or what in the hell are they doing? because on the surface its not a retool, its not a rebuild so... im sure if we asked luc he would probably give us the ingredients for an omlette.
