Though let's face it, A heavily edited series (one which MLSE apparently had final editorial say on) isn't going to give a fully clear picture into how the front office really functioned one way or the other.

For all we know the issue about "days to make decisions" may have regarded bigger moves than just a mid round pick. Not that it justifies Dubas' behavior, but all we really have are question marks.

I mean he also traded a first with it. I assume the lack of autonomy meant that he just had to discuss big moves with Shanny before doing it which is what you need at most positions. Shanny seemed to have nixed one big move that we know of which was Hagel deal.

I would be more willing to believe it if the team didn't drastically change in how it looks a month after dubas left (with the peripheral forward group at least) and he wasn't allowed to do stuff like fire babs and hire his friend and stock the organization with people who appear to have idolized him

We don't know what we don't know obviously but I find it hard to believe he didn't have autonomy as he was hiring 7 AGMs, chunking picks out the door like they were going out of style and hiring his friend from the Soo.

Look what he's done in Pittsburgh, resigned his goalie at an overpay and has spent a month trying to get karlsson. Seems like his MO when he was here. Having no back up option besides Pridham at GM is kinda weird as well but whatever

Considering the draft capital Dubas moved in the last few years, and volume of player movement from year to year and the sheer adventure that the Matt Murray trade was, I have a hard time imagining Shanahan nixed his best work or put a ton of restrictions on him.

If anything I think quite a few of the moves he ended up making needed to be overruled.

Yeppp he made a lot of moves for someone with "no autonomy"

Maybe if he didn't also go for double the salary that was offered then leave for Pittsburgh in a week I would be more willing to believe it

Dubas clearly hasn't learned a damn thing.

He's just doing the same stupid things in Pittsburgh as he did here. Shoddy goaltending and questionable defense. Along with a Studs'n'Duds roster construction.

Dubas has $82.5M to divide up any way he wants.

If the fans don't like it, too bad.
If the players don't like it, too bad.
If anyone not Dubas doesn't like it, too bad.

Kyle Dubas doesn't care what you think.

He's President and GM, not you. He's studied sports management at Brock University, not you. He's knows EVERYTHING about running a hockey team, not you.

FSG cares what Kyle Dubas has to say, not you.

To be honest I'm surprised they were so eager to get this loser. He did a pretty bad job while he was here. No short term success while hurting the chances for future success.

It’s mind boggling so many people continue to support him while watching him keep making one horrible mistake after another.

Wow Dubas did well here IMO

Only gives up a 1st and 2nd while being able to dump Granlund and Petry…

Montreal gets not much back.

DeSmith too... Karlsson is retained for 4 years, Petry for 2.

I think every team did well.

Montreal/SJ got some potential flippable assets as well as some draft capital.

Pens are at the very least a playoff team as opposed to last year, and then who knows, they have some elite pieces still even if they aren't in their prime.

I am not sure how you can say they are a lock for a playoff spot. They are still the 4th best team in their division.

I have to agree.

I think every team made out okay here.

Penguins taking the biggest risk, but they have Crosby.

?-Karlsson
? - Letang

Going to be a fun team to watch.

Who is off their team? And who'd they add?

Zucker, Petry, and Rutta are probably the only important pieces, right?

They added Smith, Karlsson, and Graves... I think the lesser players they upgraded on too.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I think they got a lot better and they barely missed last year.

I still think they will be fighting for a spot and aren't a lock like us, but they should be making it.

I mean I guess I just think with all they did they have bumped themselves from 5th in their division to 4th. They will score a lot of goals but also bleed a lot as well and will probably compete for a wildcard spot, which is literally the exact same spot they were in last year.

Going to be a fun team to watch.

Their top 6 and top 4 are great.

Guentzel - Crosby - Rakell
Smith - Malkin - Rust

Graves - Karlsson
Petterson - Letang

Will be fun to watch.

Their 3rd line could be alright too.

X - Ellers - Acciari

I think they will also be a wildcard team, but more of a lock.

Definitely, a lot to be desired defensively, but I think they improved by 5-10 points.

Betting it all on a 37 year old Malgin and 36 yr old Crosby, seems pretty risky. I don’t see it, but he’s doubling down and further mortgaging the future. If it works he’s a genius, odds are it doesn’t.
