It's not just the media, it's being in the spotlight, being seen and known every time you leave the house... and Leafs fans on Social Media and places like this are relentless on players and the team.
thats true and the Leafs can’t do what the Yankees and Sox do to protect their players

Gudas apparently not wanting to play here because of the media attention comes across as somewhat manufactured to me.

Remember when Gudas took out Kampf in the playoffs and stood there shrugging after. Waiting for a response that never arrived. If I were Gudas, a player that takes great pride in standing up for himself and his teammates, I don't think I would want to play here either.

This bullshit story about the media sounds like exactly that: a bullshit story.

The media owns the team ffs. According to the media there's rainbows shooting out of every Leafs players ass. We should know this already because our lips are expected to be attached there.

Taste the rainbow.

Gudas stinks at hockey anyway. If he wants to be a nobody, that won't be a problem. Because he already is a nobody.

Won't be long until his fifteen minutes are up and we can all go back to forgetting who this guy ever was again.

Penguins Announce Hockey Operations Promotions

Kyle Dubas Assumes Role of President of Hockey Operations and General Manager

  • Andy Saucier as Director of Professional Personnel
  • Erik Heasley as Director of Minor League and Amateur Scouting Operations
  • Amanda Kessel as Special Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager
  • Trevor Daley as Special Assistant to the President of Hockey Operations and General Manager
"At this time, I feel it is best for continuity that I formally continue in both roles as President and General Manager in the hockey operations department," said Dubas. "We will continue to reevaluate the GM position alongside all others in future off-seasons, to ensure that we are optimizing all facets of the department. We have a small but extremely dedicated management team here, and I have come to know each of them quite well over the last couple of months. We have also added both Jason Spezza and Vukie Mpofu to provide us with a nice mixture of playing experience, front office acumen, and growth potential."

Just came here to say I called this, he was never going to hire a GM

I have conducted an extensive search, long and wide and have come to the conclusion that the best possible GM is me. It was a tight fit between me, and one other candidate, but I felt I could work better with me, than I could the other.

I wonder how his contract negotiations went, between himself, and his new GM, himself.

Nice GM search by Dubas that apparently resulted in himself being the best fit for the job. There's just something not quite right about him

After the previous money fiasco he first secured his boss possition and then hired himself as a GM.

"We will continue to reevaluate the GM position alongside all others in future off-seasons"

Imagine 1 2 1 with your boss when you're the boss. I would be sweating to find out if I'm firing myself next off-season...

Edit: Kyle Dubas named the new captain of the Pens. Expect him in the opening night lineup!

You just knew that was going to happen. The guy's a f***ing ego-maniac. A complete dick. Just leaves a mad trail of people losing their jobs in his wake.

Pittsburgh - meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Realistically:

1) This isn't surprising (Dubas is quite young to be giving up on a GM role)
2) Also assuming the GM role isn't exactly earth-shattering when one is already POHO

maybe he wants himself as GM, but the options now are terrible, so maybe it's not the case...

Treliving was a terrible pick up and he was likely the best of the bunch.

For all the people who complain about what Dubas did, what Treliving did in Calgary is 100x worse, and he was the best candidate.

Wow how magnanimous of him to take on the exact job he wanted with no pesky oversight from a president, since all of the other GM options are apparently more than 100x worse

Really? What about that genius Tulsky in Carolina that seemed to be such a hot commodity? Youd think they'd be the perfect team.

Our prospect pools are pretty much ranked in identical spots. Treliving built that team from scratch pretty much while Dubas inherited Matthews, Marner and Nylander. Calgary a tougher market to attract/keep players. You've been on this BS since Dubas got fired and if you love this guy so much idk why you don't cheer for the team he now completely runs because you can't be disappointed now since he makes every move himself.

Other than Fethsscshschuk’s dumbassthery, Toronto media is quite timid. Which is likely the problem.

The issue here is critical stuff, especially from TV or radio spots gets clipped and then amplified considerably on social media among the sizeable fanbase. Stuff that would have become immediately forgotten in another market stays front and centre in Toronto for weeks, months even

What moves were so terrible? I'm gonna assume you'll say Tkachuk so lets look at that deal. Traded a 100+ point player for another 100+ point player and a top pair defender in Weegar. 1st line winger and 1st pair defender for Tkachuk. I'd say that's a pretty damn good trade for a player that was leaving anyways. People try and fault him for not trading Gaudreau and letting him walk when they were legit contenders in the West that season and then he walked and went to Columbus of all places. Nobody wanted to be there with Suter as coach but ownership wanted him which is why Treliving left Calgary as well. Dubas only good trade was for Muzzin, the rest were not that great. So again, idk why you defend 1 GM so much when they haven't done much to warrant this much love.

You can make as many excuses as you want, but the trade does not look good now.

The signings of those players is atrocious, you think Marner is overpaid? Check out Huberdeau. Weeger is a bad signing too.

Kadri signing was bad.

Markstrom is unexpected, but now a bad signing.

If Matthews walks will you have the same opinion as Gaudreau?

Coleman is one of his worst signings.

He hasn't done well.

I am giving him props because I like his time in Toronto so far (minus Reaves, maybe Kampf, and maybe Klingberg). He's addressed a need that is scoring and has taken some risk to bring in some potentially good players, but the risk is short-term.

Good thing hockey players don’t play in the NFL or even SEC football.

Why because Florida made some miracle run to the cup finals?

Huberdeau was well over a PPG in 4 seasons in a row and had 115 points in the last one. He still got less than Marner who had 1 PPG season in his contract year and was coming off his ELC. Weegars contract isn't even that bad. Go around saying all these contracts are bad but praise the contracts Dubas signed when he was here. Pretty easy to say his signings were good when they are all league minimum signings because he wanted to give max money to 4 players. I'm not trying to argue here with you about GMs but I'm not gonna give so much unwarranted love to our former GM when he made plenty of bad decisions himself.

Good, he’ll have no one to hide behind when he runs that team into the ground.
